jazzytakara
I'm being confirmed next Saturday, I'm so excited! This will also be my first official Holy Week. Although my family are Christians, we never did much for Easter, and there were rarely services on Good Friday. My sponsor is having me over to share in dinner in Holy Thursday, her family has a few traditions. =) Does anyone have any advice to help me better prepare for Confirmation and experience Holy Week to the fullest? I'd like to start making some new traditions, I'm so excited!
PhuturePriest
That's awesome! I'm so happy for you! As for preparing yourself, just pray and read the Gospel. There's not too many other things you can do better than those two in order to become ready for it.
OnlySunshine
My mom and I (and sometimes, my dad) have gotten into the habit of attending Holy Thursday Mass. I love the washing of the feet and the procession of the Eucharist to the Altar of Repose. We usually stay afterward for Adoration for about 30 minutes. The Holy Thursday readings are beautiful. Good Friday service is usually very somber. My mom and I went last year to the 3pm service and we had Veneration of the Crucifix (or Cross) and Reception of the Eucharist (no consecration; the priest uses Communion from the Holy Thursday Mass). The altar is stripped bare and there are no candles, no bells, no musical instruments (just vocal music and very somber). All the statues in the Church are covered until Easter Vigil. I usually watch "Passion of the Christ" at home and/or pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. It's a very prayerful day in silence, especially from 12pm to 3pm. You can also pray the Stations of the Cross. I've only been to Easter Vigil once (that I can remember) but I loved it. Seeing all the new Church members come into the fold is incredible! I love the blessing of the new Baptismal Candle and Holy Water. I love starting the Mass in the dark with only candlelight and music about Christ rising from the dead. It's overwhelmingly beautiful! You have to experience it for yourself but you're going to love it! :) Edited March 23, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae
PadrePioOfPietrelcino
I'm happy for you, I remember my first Holy Week, my suggestion is to do a Holy Hour and really pray for God to be with you and strengthen you (Before Thurs Mass :) ) Attend Holy Thursday and Good Friday Services. BG45
How does your post not have more props? That's amesome!!! Congratulations! :) Edit: If I may give a piece of 'secular' advice given to me by the parish janitor for my Easter Vigil. Go to the bathroom before the Vigil. It's a 3 hour liturgy, then you're not leaving too quickly after. Though the janitor didn't think of it spiritually (and it was good advice), I think not paying attention to the bladder also helps one immerse herself/himself more fully in the experience! Kayte Postle
I'm being confirmed as well!! (Wooohoo RCIA class of 2013!). One thing that our rcia directors suggested was putting as much "day to day" things on pause this week, so that we can better focus on Christ and the sacrament that we are about to participate in. I know someone mention it already, but taking a holy hour (or half hour) over the next days is something that was stressed to me. Then I'm planning on fasting all day on Saturday. =)
jazzytakara
Such good advice, I just can't wait until Saturday. This has been a long process, about two years of discernment and prayer, but I'm finally ready and feel so at peace for it. =)

elizabeth09
On Good Friday, there is no mass, because Jesus had died on the cross, but we still recive the Holy Commuine. The Prist blessed it the day before. this is the only time out the year, we have a service. Welcome to the family Edited March 27, 2013 by elizabeth09
