As in the rest of the world, filth is only ever a few steps away.

As I said, with the internet, as with the rest of the world, filth is nearby.

The world is a place with darkness and light. We are all weak, we all fall, whether we're using the internet or not. The internet is a tool, nothing more and nothing less. Some will use it for evil, others for good. As long as we can recognize our weaknesses, and seek forgiveness through the sacrament of reconciliation, and strive to use this tool for good, then there isn't an issue.

I feel like this is an apples/oranges discussion. to me "Filled with darkness" meant "yes, there's a ton of filth on the internet" which is true but there   are some good things too.

There are good things and bad things. Good: Phatmass, Catholic Answers, and Educational Stuff I find that is useful. Bad: Porn, Pro eating disorders, and the like.

I believe that the internet is good overall because of the wealth of information. Sure, there is "bad" stuff, but the fact that it can all exist means that we can all benefit and grow, regardless of our beliefs.

I should just be reading Scripture.

 

I asked a nun why so many monasterys use facebook and such these days and she said "it is a necessary evil".

 

But when I read Scripture or even books by Thomas Merton, they didn't have all these media things we have today and look what they accomplished!

We have failed in our use of media for the greater good.
