Running Shoes

I have some five fingers. I think I'll try them tomorrow. My little sister didn't like them so I ended up owning her old pair.

Make sure you are quite careful. If you have not used them before, it would be very easy to overtrain and injure yourself. I believe they recommend running only a tenth of what you would normally run, the first time you try it.

Thanks! Lately, I am not pushing myself as much because I just want to get back on the horse. I haven't been running like I used to.

Excellent time to try making the switch then.

You might not have a Fleet Feet (we have Luke's Locker and RunOn here) but you should have a running store nearby. It's really important in my mind to go talk to them and have them fit you. The stores here inspect your feet, watch you walk and run, and explain any oddities. Then they'll give you some good options and help you pick.

I run in Brooks. I tried a pair of Nikes that were supposed to work for me but didn't like how bulky they felt compared to my Brooks pair.

What works for one runner won't necessarily work for another.

I second this.

Where I live we have a Luke's Locker as well as local running places like Luke's (I live in a very active city, so places like these are everywhere). I just did this last weekend because I'm starting to train for Triathlons, 5k's, and 10k's.

I went to Luke's Locker and they were great. Did very well with inspecting my feet, let me run in some shoes on the treadmills, and explained many things. I got the Brooks Ghost shoes, because those are what helped me the most. They also let me try one of the more minimal brooks shoe which is the Brooks Pure Flow. It had the right amount of minimal with the right amount of cushioning, so I recommend those if you're looking for a more minimal shoe.

I can't reiterate enough what Fransicanheart said, what works for one runner won't necessarily work for another. I strongly recommend going to a good running store to help find what shoe is best to reduce the risk of injury.

What is this "running" you speak of? You mean that thing that PE teachers make you do? People actually do that for fun? You guys are crazy.

New Balance. For sure you should go to a specialty store, preferably one dedicated to that brand. The shoes sold in sports stores are not the same quality.

I think the closest thing we have to a running store is a locally owned shop in the city. I shall investigate.

Luke's Locker and RunOn were both small, single-store companies at one point. I think RunOn only has two locations -- or they did the last I checked. It can't hurt to go in and talk to someone. It could be the difference in more than just time. A lot of injuries can be avoided by being in the right shoes and replacing them at the right times. :like:

As someone who had an injury in high school cross country.......good shoes ....though expensive.....are worth it.

I think I tried to stretch a pair by using the same running shoes from the previous cross country season..........didn't work out so well.

are Avia's made for jogging? I hope so because  that's what I've been using . I do feel comfortable in them while jogging.

I guess I should add slip resistant shoes.

So I used some of the money I had and Madré chipped in. We went to the local store. They helped. I have some running shoes now. Merrell Barefoot with Vibram soles. Breathable and light. Breaking them in this weekend. Really excited. Now I can start working more on my endurance!!
