Anastasia13
Islam already was in power in Syria. I guess. That is different now is the massive civil war that has engulfed Syria. Yes. "It would be nice if there were something to be done for Syrian civilians in general but that's not going to happen because Russia is protecting Syria in the Security Council." Why is Russia doing that? Why do they have so much power that nothing can get in, even NGOs? "But I'm sure that Krill will publicly denounce Putin for this any day now." Can you please give me some reasons why I should care about details like that when so much of the world is gong to hell already? I don't think that Russian is doing anything to stop NGOs from entering but they are protecting the Assad regime on the international stage. As to why they are doing it, Syria allows Russia to access the black sea. Russia also just doesn't like humanitarian interventions in general since they are worried that someday it will lead to the international community actually challenging them when they do things like carpet bomb Grozny. Can you please give me some reasons why I should care about details like that when so much of the world is gong to hell already? I just think it's part of Krill's general pattern of behavior. He issues statements about the plight of Christians in Syria but really doesn't do anything of substance to challenge the situation. Putin could really support the Christians of Syria by helping us get Assad to step aside. As things are going things are probably going to get worse for Syrian Christians. Situations like this empower the Al-Qaeda types who get across the boarder. Fortunately, thanks to the Bush administration, Syria shares a boarder with a country with a large population of trained Sunni extremist fighters (Iraq). So I bet that's going to end well. Apotheoun
Patriarch Kirill met with former Patriarch Ignatios IV and they discussed the problems facing the Orthodox in Syria, and Ignatios IV seemed quite happy with the help the Russian Church had been giving his own Church up to that time; and just yesterday, John, the new Patriarch of Antioch, sent a representative (Met. George of Homs) to meet with Patriarch Kirill in Moscow in order to discuss the problems facing Christians in Syria. Met. George thanked Patriarch Kirill for his continuing efforts to assist the Church of Antioch saying, "We have come in these days to receive a blessing from Your Holiness and to go through these difficult times through your deep faith and the faith of the people. His Holiness Patriarch John asked me to convey to you his love, prayers and fraternal greeting."
