Nihil Obstat
Oh, I see. I am on my phone. It does funny things.
cmotherofpirl
I think Seders for non-Jews are generally a bad idea. For them, it is required yearly ritual correct? For us its just an experiment, and doesn't hold the same religious meaning. How would we feel if they decided to hold a pretend Mass as a learning experience? Evangetholic
So - some family friends have invited my household to a Passover seder on Saturday (which is...not when Passover falls this year, but I guess they're trying to avoid doing it on a weekday). They're Jewish, my dad's Jewish, I'm (obviously?) a Catholic. Random answers on the internet range from "sure go for it", to "it's a mortal sin even if you do it understanding that the old law has been retired", but I can't seem to find anything official on it. I'm a quarter Jewish (my mother's father). I feel Jewish (ethnically). I do not participate in non-Catholic religious rituals (weddings and funerals excepted)--especially non-Christian ones. Not The Philosopher
Welp, I'm leaning more toward not going right now. Partly because I'll be working a long shift that starts first thing in the morning, and don't want to sleepwalk through Palm Sunday. But I just don't feel too comfortable with the idea - even though the seder still has some nostalgic value for me (my family did it when I was growing up, although my family was secular in pretty much every other respect). LadyOfSorrows
Being a convert from Judaism, I see it as a learning experience. I will still go to one if invited, and I have seen them very much enrich the faith of other Catholic Christians. It doesn't contradict the faith at all. :) I'll actually be having my own seder. Hold a pretend Mass? No. Attend a real Mass while refraining from the eucharist? ? Edited March 21, 2013 by Light and Truth
