Not The Philosopher
So - some family friends have invited my household to a Passover seder on Saturday (which is...not when Passover falls this year, but I guess they're trying to avoid doing it on a weekday). They're Jewish, my dad's Jewish, I'm (obviously?) a Catholic. Random answers on the internet range from "sure go for it", to "it's a mortal sin even if you do it understanding that the old law has been retired", but I can't seem to find anything official on it. Tony
"it's a mortal sin even if you do it understanding that the old law has been retired".. isn't that self-contradictary?
PhuturePriest
I was told this is okay to do.
Lilllabettt
if they know you are Catholic they probably have a good grasp of where you stand on the Jesus thing.
Apotheoun
"it's a mortal sin even if you do it understanding that the old law has been retired".. isn't that self-contradictary? The statement is not really self-contradictory; instead, it is just poorly worded.
morostheos
My Catholic parish used to hold a seder meal, so I always thought it was ok. It's a celebration of heritage. On the other hand, I'm sure there were many other iffy practices my parish used to do. :idontknow:

The seder has been fulfilled and completed in the Eucharist.

As long as you don't do anything that compromises your Catholic faith, and are just attending as a guest, I don't really see a problem with going. Perhaps you should speak to your parish priest and get his advice on the matter.

Anastasia13
Be careful about praying there with Jews. Their faith is different, and if you go, you need to be careful to respect that. Most of what they say will be not in contradiction to your faith, but how they explain what they say too might be different. I would go and enjoy it, but be careful to remember that. BTW, Dayenu was actually not such a worshipful song, but rather a we had a burden and you gave us more and that would have been enough, but you gave us more kind of song, at least the way it was explained to me by a Messianic. I would be careful about joining that song just because I don't feel it is the most respectful way to sing to God. This is a popular Passover song.
