Anastasia13
Does anyone else like Bollywood movies? I found a couple that I really enjoyed, and I hope to watch more.

Nihil Obstat
I kind of have trouble taking it seriously as a form of cinema, but at the same time I also kind of appreciate just how unique and un-self-conscious it is. It is bombastic and overacted, throws physics out the window, and just generally does not make a lot of sense. But that is a lot of the reason that it is so cool. They just do not care. In a way it reminds me of older martial arts movies, especially the wuxia genre of Chinese films and literature. There is an established set of conventions which, out of context, perhaps does not make any sense, but in its proper context, within its own genre, it is kind of part of an unspoken set of premises. I think the same probably applies to Bollywood. It is Indian culture taking American cinema, and really making it their own. It has its own conventions and formulas. And I think that should be encouraged. American films often do not make sense anyway. There is the invincible action hero trope, or the dumb adolescents that split up to look around in a horror film. Many aspects of American films are not realistic at all, but we accept it as a formula that belongs in its genre, and helps tell a particular kind of story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giJCL_jhnsE

You should totally watch Aisha if you get the chance, at least part of it. It's very... normal. It is one of my favorite movies. OnlySunshine
I love Devdas and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi -- both starring Shahrukh Khan. I especially like the 2nd one. It's funny. :)
God the Father
My best buddy was crazy about Bollywood movies, we would watch them for hours. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab We Met are the two that come to mind right off the bat but there were a few other ones, of which I remember everything except the titles, and she had a ton of posters also. A ton of movies with Shahrukh Kahn and Shahid Kapoor. The movies are nuts. Every single one is like a Disney musical, it's crazy edit: excuse the past tense, we haven't spoken for a while. She's still living haha. Om Shanti Om is another one I just thought of. Edited March 19, 2013 by God the Father

God the Father
So like... one movie? :| Sorry! forgot there were kids on this board. I used the phrase "for hours" as a figurative expression to connote "a long time." You'll learn about things like context and tropology when you get to middle school. All in God's time :) You're right though, since a typical movie's runtime is longer than a singular hour, my expression didn't literally denote anything of significance! So good job! Gold star for you and an extra scoop of ice cream at dessert <

God the Father
I suppose you did not catch the obvious reference to bollywood movies being strangely long? I was gonna mention it but it didn't match the snarky note I was going for. That's actually what I thought you meant at first haha.
