Brother Adam
Please look at this website and answer the poll: http://churchnativity.tv/ I am reading a book based on the measured success or failure of this parish. It is considered by some as the next big "hit" in how to do "church" to make it relevant to peoples lives and be seeker friendly. I am not suggesting whether or not this is a good direction for Catholic parishes or not, I am just curious peoples impression of the Church based on their use of social media alone. Finally, what is the church trying to say about themselves, and what are they trying to say to visitors of the website?
Slappo
I teetered between obviously apparent and difficult. The 2nd picture off of their website is what in my mind made it apparent, but not quite obviously so.
Lil Red
it looks pretty much exactly like a foursquare church's website (that's here locally).
Slappo
eek gads... looking at what they are trying to say to visitors is: "You'll enjoy your time here. We have cool things for you to do, hip music, and lots of fun". The "What to expect" makes me cringe inside. No thanks, I'll pass on an "all access pass"... If it weren't for a few very clearly Catholic things I noticed, I'd assume the site was a protestant mega church like place. I would like to point out that the website is completely worthless without Flash, which is very poor design.

Apotheoun
it looks pretty much exactly like a foursquare church's website (that's here locally). I cheated by looking at the welcome page, but I think Lil Red is spot on in her response. Just going by the way the website presents the Church it looks like a standard non-denominational community. FutureSister2009
All access pass for a Church. what a bunch of garbage. That's like Westminster Abbey charging 18 pounds to go in. Believe me, I did not pay to go into it. Edited March 18, 2013 by FutureSister2009
Lilllabettt
they lift a lot of terminology from evangelical congregations. Referring to the homily as a "message" for example

The 2nd picture off of their website is what in my mind made it apparent, but not quite obviously so. That second picture is the nicest picture on the whole website. It's very stylish, and even made me think of the Russian Orthodox Church's opening graphic for their broadcast of the Paschal Liturgy in 2011. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtAuV8JywW0
MIKolbe
there is a part of me that thinks when the Church tries to go 'mainstream', She loses because the message of the Church and of Jesus is so counter-cultural that trying to put in 'within' the culture would seem to harm it. To me, it is too much 'of this world'.

Evangetholic
I do not like crisp, clean, middle class, North American religion. I didn't know Catholicism could be presented in such an Evangelical way.
