Aloysius
for most of the popes people have been able to spin it to make it fit the Malachy prophecy, with varying degrees of plausibility, so why should Pope Francis be any different. I'll start you off, let's all find creative ways to make Francis into Peter the Roman. 1, The first Peter was a non-European who ended up bishop of Rome... this is the first non-European in the whole Malachy list so he must've seen him as being like Peter, ending up in Rome. the paradoxical Italian ancestry while being non-European just ties him into the connection of "Peter" and "Roman"; BAM. 2, He picked St. Francis of Assisi, aka, Francesco di Pietro di Bernardone, if you use his father's name in his birth name... there's a Peter connection! haha, just like you can make almost any name add up to 666, you can usually find some way to stretch anyone into the Malachy prophecy. too bad this is the last one on Malachy's list so we don't get to have fun with the next guy (unless you go with the story that there can be some number between glory of the olives and petrus romanus, then we can just keep trying to fit each one in as peter the roman... that sounds like more fun haha, we should go with that) anyone got any other creative ways to fit the square peg in the round hole? she_who_is_not
I saw this on a Protestant End Times conspiracy website, not really Malachy related but, eh: Within the letters of his full name, Jorge Mario Bergoglio, is the word Magog. I think this is some type of Anti-Christ reference.
Noel's angel
I tend not to pay attention to these things, but wouldn't the 'Black Pope' term linked with the Jesuits be a 'sign' for folks who love these theories?
Evangetholic
I know what's really happening. Historical Pope Francis has blinded you all to the truth, there's a secret, spiritual Pope Francis whose real illuminati name is Pierre Le Romain. You have to really think about it. The truth is out there. Or rather in here.
Aloysius
I don't think the words "black pope" are in the Malachy prophecy, are they? I found some reference to an alleged "old Italian prophecy" (not sure what the source is lol) that says "When the White Pope and the Black Pope shall die during the same night, then there will dawn upon the Christian nations the Great White Day." it was on some crazy protty website or something when I searched to find out if the words 'black pope' were in the malachy text, but it was clearly put up before Francis was elected... which is interesting because Francis as a Jesuit is definitely a black pope, I'm sure it'll be trotted up and the source looked for if somehow Francis and Benedict both die at the same time some day. anyway, let me be clear this isn't intended as a thread that takes the Malachy prophecies seriously, they're like Nostradamus and such, I find it an amusing bit of lore to play around with. Honestly, even if Peter Turkson or some other Peter-connected cardinal had been elected I'd not have put any stock in it, and the only thing I'd have thought if someone actually had the brass to pick the papal name Peter II would've been that this guy must believe in the Malachy prophecy, not that it was a true prophecy lol. It is interesting to me that seems to be expressing a unique and special affection for Rome, and the Roman people, both in his address last night, and this morning when he kept his promise from last night to pray for the Roman people at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Salus Populi Romani. I also liked his perhaps symbolic gesture of praying at the tomb of Pope Saint Pius V, who appears to have or could have many things in common with Pope Francis. For example, caring for the poor, coming from modest backgrounds, being simplistic, bringing back Church discipline, cleaning up Rome, Liturgical renewal.
