theculturewarrior
I borrowed the term from First Things. Father Neuhaus uses it to describe the phenomenon of evangelicals converting to Catholicism. It means, Catholic converts with a background in evangelical protestantism. Sojourner
I was talking to a friend about this the other day ... I grew up evangelical, but was never comfortable with talking about my faith before. Now that I'm Catholic, I LOVE talking about my faith with all sorts of folks, so I'm kind of more evangelical now than I was when I was an evangelical. If that makes sense. M.SIGGA
I did when I was 16 and my evangelical protestant friends still say I'm assured and saved along with them.
MorphRC
Apparently with some. Once youre saved, you go be a tyrant, kill millions of people, torture and kill them, and you still go to heaven. Id love to know why kind of god goes by that! I guess their god threw out justice along with common sense.
M.SIGGA
The pastor said that all sins are covered from the past and stretches all the way through eternity after saying the Sinner's prayer with faith. Afterwards the way one lives their life determines the rewards he/she will recieve in heaven since "blessed assurance" exists that the person is a member of the elect, the name is in written in the Book of Life, and that salvation is secured for all eternity. Phazzan
When I was saved I knew nothing about Christianity or a "sinners" prayer as such. I needed help at the time, so I prayed and God was there. I suppose it was a type of "sinners" prayer, but not in the evangelical sense. Salvation is an experience, not just a prayer. God draws you near to Him, all you have to do is accept.
theculturewarrior
God draws you near to Him, all you have to do is accept.
Well-put...although something makes me want to correct that last part...probably my instinct for caveats and nothing more. But really, is that all there is to it? Maybe...I'll leave it for the theologians.
homeschoolmom
Well, I think Phazzan would agree that accepting is an on-going process... you accept over and over and over...
