read that interview he did with the telegraph. immediate reaction was "kiss it goodbye, eminence."

Or is it a sophisticated strategy to ensure that he is not elected? I know if someone bandied my name about to be Pope I would get myself to the nearest media outlet to make myself as unappetizing a conclave snack as possible.

I have no idea who these people are. None.

Your mom, and your mom's mom from the old country.

I seriously hope that's the case...

Evangetholic

The mere fact of campaigning does not mean or even imply that the Cardinal in question is doing the campaigning himself or cooperating with it.

A lot of this is based off of an interview that Turkson gave.  Which was seriously cause for concern.

I just read the Telegraph interview (I assume that was the one being referred to). I didn't see anything out of the ordinary...he basically said that any African cardinal is automatically thrown into the mix, and he pointed to Cardinal Arinze as an example, saying the man's 80 now and was never elected...in other words, speculation doesn't mean much he said.

The solution: BURKE.

Exactly.  Why I think he has better odds than some give him credit.

Perhaps he will not be chosen, but for some reason, I think the turn of events ride in his favor.  He will get unexpected support precisely because he is up to dealing with lingering issues.

Burke, or no American Cardinal. I would be worried if Dolan was elected.

Dolan's cool but I think Burke carries a much heavier resume to deal with issues that need to be dealt with.

Such as what?

I like Dolan. I think he'd be a great communicator.

Also, I just found this video. I didn't know Pope Benedict chose Cardinal Dolan to address all of the Cardinals regarding the new evangelization last year. So...it appears that all of the cardinals at the very least know about him, and some seem to like him very much:

I'm not a fan of Dolan as pope. I think he's a wonderful man and bishop, and I really enjoy listening to what he has to say about things...but every so often he says something that doesn't seem like it was well thought out.  It'd be interesting to see if that changes if he becomes pope; I definitely don't think he'd be a bad decision or anything. I really just think there are better options.

But then I'm neither a Cardinal nor the Holy Spirit. :)
