That didn't resemble country music in any way. I'm from a heavily country music-oriented part of Kansas. This is country music:

Your definition of country is way too narrow.

Although that is a fantastic song.

That's traditional country in its purest form right there. That other song was pop country, which is no more country than pop rock is rock.

I strongly disagree with the bolded. Alison Krauss does bluegrass primarily, which is a particular offshoot from traditional country, which has its own traditional and pop forms. Alison Krauss' collaboration with Robert Plant, which won many awards, is best categorized as Americana and folk rock, both of which are legitimate forms of country and bluegrass in their own right.

If you're going to be a purist regarding country then basically you're left with only blue grass. Johnny Cash sounds like a black blues singer, not a "pure" country artist.

Plus Johnny Cash should really not be considered without delving into the American Recordings, which are the most eclectic (and frankly genius) mix of country from a single artist that one can ever find.

I want to post Honky Tonk Badonkadonk just for the heck of it, but I am pretty sure I would get warned. :hehe:

It just is not the same without the (rather immodest) video. :P

It is like gangsta rap for Nashville.

I know. I actually wroote a paper about how that song more than anything else normalized contraception among Southern Protestants. Although you might be comforted to know that there is a slow but sure movement in Protestantism away from contraception.
