Autumn Dusk
Do you eat vegeterian "meat" products on Fridays during lent?
KnightofChrist
Yes, their fake chicken patties and nuggets are pretty good. Their fake burgers are ok, I like Burger King's veggie burger more though. Their fake sausages are eh, when I was living at home and left one or two on a plate on the dinner table my mom found them later and thought the dog had jumped up onto the table and took a dump on the plate. They do look like doo doo when they dry up, and they kinda taste like cardboard when cooked. Anyway, the fake chicken patties and nuggets are the best they got. Autumn Dusk
I guess I have, but I don't really log and stamp the days I do. I never ate them on a lent friday until this year...becuase my parents feel that it's just as bad as eating meat, but my friends seem to think its ok. I think that for me it'd be as penitential as eating fish sticks. Which is to say, pretty penitential. :P

I don't understand why, other than perhaps it has the appearance of meat. Still it isn't really meat.
Basilisa Marie
Yeah, but if you're eating veggie stuff in order to keep the feeling of eating meat, then you're not really lined up with the spirit of the law. Otherwise, I say it's fine. Seems like it'd be different for different people. Like for me, I feel really weird about eating a super nice salmon fillet on a Friday in Lent. I would eat that normally, and eat it gladly - so for me personally, it doesn't feel like a sacrifice. Salmon's pretty popular (and delicious) where I grew up. So instead, I usually try to go for a different fish (ew) or a true vegetarian option, if I have the choice. But I wouldn't say that eating salmon on Fridays of Lent is bad for other people - on the contrary, it's a good way to fulfill the Lenten obligation. I agree veggie stuff shouldn't be used as a loophole, that would go against the spirit. As far as fish, for me since I abstain from meat every day of Lent, eating just fish, veggie stuff, and meatless pasta etc really becomes a sacrifice about two weeks in, no matter how elegant the food is prepared. LOL Portland's more like Agnosticism and Salmon. :hehe2: Or Paganism. We have a lot of pagans (real pagans...who worship Gaia and stuffs).
Slappo
I don't see a veggie burger as disobeying the spirit of the law. They have a different taste as well as a different nutritional value. The people who really sacrifice giving meat up for lent would much rather have a nice thick rich juicy meat burger than a veggie patty.

"God" in that post was sadly not used to reference the deity, it was a placeholder word. For the two years I lived in Portland I met not one Christian outside of a church. lol Although at Pioneer Square and then later in Woodstock I met a man who believed himself to be Jesus. But the heathens were generally a kind lot.
OnlySunshine
I don't care for Morningstar Farms stuff. I used to eat their stuff when I was a vegetarian but the flavor is a bit strange. So, no, I don't eat Morningstar Farms. I used to love Boca Burgers but they didn't taste good anymore when I started eating meat again. I used to LOVE the Cheeseburger Boca Burger. Now it tastes gross... :x I am glad I am not a vegetarian anymore because all that stuff I used to eat has tons of wheat in it which I'm now allergic to. BTW, fish and veggies are much healthier for you than that processed junk. ;) Edited March 8, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae
