I was prepared to do this, but then I forgot....

I was supposed to take a friend to 10am mass this morning, but when I left my house at 9:30am to pick her up, it was actually 10:30am....sigh.... :paperbag: ....so, we went to noon mass instead. Hopefully next year I'll remember.

Losing the hour of sleep isn't that great, but it does save lives. Severe thunderstorms occur mostly in the evening and night hours, so the time change means people will be up to protect themselves rather than asleep. For instance, my tornado hit my house at 9:45. It would have been 10:45 and many people would have died if it hadn't been for the fact the clock went an hour forward.

That sounds pretty like a pretty tenuous link to me.

I'm not saying that's why people do it. I'm saying it has its purpose.

I am saying that I am not sure that benefit can be demonstrated. :smile3:

In theory DST has several purposes (which can and have been debated). I do not think that is one of them. :P

I'm just saying, a lot of people would have been going to bed at that time. I've had to stay up until three in the morning to keep a close eye on the weather, and I'm grateful I had to stay up until three and not four.
