Strictlyinkblot
I need help from all of you who live in New York/ New Jersey. I'm visiting New York at the end of April and I need to know what's the best way to get from JFK airport to Newark airport/ the city of Summit. I know I can get a train and then change once or twice but as I'll be very jetlagged is there any direct way? I've been looking for shuttles or shared rides but I could only find one website and they emailed me back to say that they don't do shuttle services anymore. I don't want to get a private car as its too expensive and I don't drive so I can't hire a car.
marigold
Didn't happen to be this one, did it? Because that looks about as direct as you're going to get, if a cab isn't an option. I was in and out of New York/JFK for my monastery escapades, and it is overwhelming, even compared to living in London, but I had a paper with all the exact steps of where I needed to go and actually, it wasn't that bad. The second and third trips I didn't even need the paper :flex2:
AnneLine
I don't know for sure... but a few years back there was a commuter train that went right to Summit. I can see what I can find out tomorrow if you want to know more about it.... would be happy to do some research if you want.....

Strictlyinkblot
Anneline and Marigold, thank you both very much. I'll check out the shuttle. Anneline if you could find out about the train or tell me where I can find out I'd be very grateful. Marigold, I'll pm you once I'm fully awake. I was on night duty last night and my brain still thinks I'm asleep.
Pax17
Strictlyinkblot, from JFK, you could take the AirTrain to Jamaica station, connect to the E train (subway) at Sutphin Blvd. Take the E to Penn Station New York, go upstairs and change to New Jersey Transit Morris & Essex line to Summit. cmaD2006
(again breaking my Lenten silence). I think your best option (if others can chime in that would be great) would be to take the NYC Airporter to NY Penn Station then the NJT Morris Essex Line to Summit. The ride from Penn Station to Summit per google is 48 minutes. If you take the NYC Airporter (what marigold kind of hinted to) from JFK to NY Penn Station it will cost $16 (+ $9.25 for the NJT train = $25.25), That would limit you to one connection :). You can also take that service to Newark Airport -- but you still are stuck with another connection and the fare is $24 to Newark (and per NJT you would have to pay another $14.75 so that makes it $38.75). Hope this helps, -- Cma

Using airport shuttles and local transit works BEAUTIFULLY... have done that for years! :) I went to visit one of the Phatmassers who lives in Summit with my husband and a friend a few years back.... uh, this goes right past the back wall of their home. We ended up driving but the train looked like a perfect option. You could probably also ask said Phatmasser how to do this.... and I bet uh, one of the residents might come and get you at the train station, too..... uh.... Indeed, simple as black and white.... PHOTOS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!!! Kinda like this: http://nunsopsummit.org/archives/1651

darcy15
Hello Just a thought, but might it be easier to fly to Newark rather than JFK? United and Virgin have multiple daily flights from Heathrow. Taxi to Summit direct from the airport about $50-60. 😃
