Quietfire
I have a KJV from church a Rainbow bible A Readers Digest Bible (no verses or numbers-pretty cool.) its old. I have some other Bibles and Catholic New Testaments (real small for the purse) BUT Gosh, I am so happy I have a vintage 1943 Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible. Its got so much in it. And when it comes to quoting Machabees or Ecclesiasticus, it stumps most people because alot dont realize thier bible doesnt have it(outside Catholicism that is) Peace. *funny. I had asked a while back about updating my bible. Now I'm glad I didnt. This was a gift from a friend who is Catholic, she owned an antique shop and had this bible there, until I came along. theculturewarrior
I like the king james and the DRV. I'm not sure how accurate the KJV is, but it is a beautiful translation, and is useful for apologetics. (Reading the KJV is kind of like going behind enemy lines). Did you know that the DRV was published first, and the translators of the KJV borrowed heavily from it?
azaelia
Douay-Rhiems and the Ignatius are the best IMO. I own the Douay-Rhiems and my parent's own an Ignatius. Compared to the other translations I've read (NAB, NRSV, KJV, etc.) they're most accurate, and complete. One way to tell if the translation is good is to go to the first line of Psalm 1: "Happy is the man..." If it doesn't say "man" then run away, run away! Oik
I have a DR a, an Nab, and TEV. I can still use the KJV and THe NKJV. I would prefer a DR, however, I have not found a text yet that suits my particular interest. I should like to learn latin and then I would just read it.
