Tantum Ergo

Recommended Posts

I went to the late Mass yesterday and afterwards they had benediction and sang Tantum Ergo. This is one of my favorite prayers / services, and it seems one of the few Latin prayers that all Catholics seems to know (I don't think I've ever heard it recited in English). Very simple and humble the entire benediction service. Any thoughts / reflections / links about this.

sounds wonderful era.  thanks for sharing that with us.  i watch benediction on ewtn.  their

masses and services are awesome and reverent and respectful.  much better than going to

a local mass where i live.  sad to say.  of course there are exceptions to that statement.  not

all of them seem so disrespectful or like they are done thoughtlessly with no care for our Lord.

sometimes i wonder if they even believe what they are saying.  but that is not for me to judge.

have a wonderful day and week.  glad you were blessed by this benediction service.

It is mainly recited / sung in English here in the SF East Bay area, but I have heard it in Latin in some parishes in San Francisco.

Matt Maher actually sings it in English on one of his albums. "Down in adoration falling this great sacrament we hail.."

By the way, the modern english translation is very much a paraphrase of the latin... Paraphrase might infer too close a connection though...

In my personal experience benedictions I've been to are about a 50/50 English / Latin. I love it in both languages.
