Ladies - Shopping Advice?

I was thinking about this today when I went clothes shopping.  I tend to shop at places like Forever XXI, Body Central (occasionally), Kohls, etc.  They're all reasonably priced but that's because there's hardly any material in the clothing.  So then I thought that I probably spend more money than I realize on things like tank-tops and cardigans and stuff like that to make the plunging necklines a little more conservative.  If that's the case, why not just pay more money for more conservative clothes?  So today I went into places like The Limited, The Gap, Loft, etc and I'm not saying I'm about to spend $70 on a casual dress but their clothes were soooo much more modest and still cute.

Just wondering if you guys had thoughts on this?  I know there are online websites like shabbyapple.com that have really fashionable, modest outfits but they're significantly more expensive than I'd like and I hesitate to buy clothes online because I never know how they'll fit...

Oh and sidenote, I was in Ireland last September and pretty much every clothing store had conservative clothing.  There was one store that was supposedly "American fashion" and I looked inside and it really was pretty immodest stuff which made me laugh  :hehe2:  It's no wonder that Europeans tend to look down on Americans.

That's all I shop. lol.

at dillard's, macy's penney's, Ross and Marshalls are good, too. Goody's/Peebles is ok but you have to look in the right place.

If you have an outlet mall with an ann taylor, I love their jeans. Also if there's an outlet mall near you, white house black market clearance racks could be an option. And dress barn.

also, don't be afraid of trying things on. TONS of things.

This. I shop all over the place and the majority of what I buy is sale or clearance. Occasionally I splurge and buy something regular price. I typically only order online with a trusted brand that I know my size with--at least for dresses, pants, skirts. Tops aren't that much of a big deal... jeans, I will try on at least 8 pairs before I find a good one.

Dryness of humor actually isn't related to whether or not one finds it tasteful and honestly it's not even almost reasonable to have thought it was a serious statement. There are dozens of theological, moral, and philosophical problems that positing some inherent deficit of thought to women would present. Only mean-spiritedness or deep pain could allow the sentence to have been read as serious.

In the interest of peace, you may have the last word Madam.

and they've all been declared incorrect. If there was something wrong with or deficient about women, then Mary would not have been chosen by God to be the means through which the Savior entered the world.

I am not mean spirited, nor am I in deep pain. To come into a thread where women are trying to be serious and make that comment is rude and unwelcome. You're a guy. The title clearly says ladies. You know NOTHING about being a woman or shopping for clothes like women. Why bother saying "deficiencies of the female psyche" at all? It's belittling, stereotyping, and unnecessary.  It is the equivalent of me saying to you "guys are all idiot jerk-faces haha. that was a joke"

I will pray for you - to Mary- that she take away from you the tendency to view women as creatures that aren't complete or that are deficient.

I will never understand the incessant need some guys have to comment on things that only pertain to women.

But it's not just human? I'll never defy the Empress--tell me what to do.

Quit being a donkey and get out of threads that don't pertain to you.

This also goes for other beloved members of the phorum.

Dress pants for $6? Can't beat that. At a thrift store, they'd be 2 or 3 but off the clearance rack at penney's they're brand new with no weird smells or wear. So I think it's a good deal.

I don't care what price they give, my sister can always somehow find it cheaper. :P She has a gift at finding really nice clothes for incredibly low prices.

I've gotten awesome shirts off their clearance racks for 3 bucks.

I can't help but notice you ladies do the same thing. I once asked a question on Catholic Answers Forums directed specifically at fathers. Every woman and her daughter came in with a very bold opinion that disagreed with every father there. Which is precisely why I asked fathers and not everyone. It seems this is a gender-neutral fault humans have.

Okay, first, I'm talking about here on Phatmass.  I'm not really concerned with other sites.

Second, You guys do it ALL THE TIME here.  A thread about getting dressed up?  Guys come in and troll it. Make up thread?  Guys come in and troll it and give opinions.  Another clothing thread? Guys come in and give opinions.

So many dudes have to inflict their opinions on threads that are clearly only geared for the ladies...in ways that are entirely unhelpful.  Look, I'm not against guys contributing, or offering a different point of view, especially in things like parenting threads or when the topic of a guy's opinion comes up. :)  But when an OP specifically asks for the opinions of the women of the forum, on a topic that is only of interest to women...it's so annoying and completely unhelpful for you guys to add your opinion, unless it involves "Hey my sister/girlfriend/wife/woman I know likes to shop at SuchAndSuch Store."

And frankly, if you realize how annoying it is...why would you do it yourself?

My favorite place is the big stores (Macy's, Dilard's, Sears etc) on-line clearance and sign up for the e-mail..   They end up there when they have limited sizes or colors.

They they send out e-mails for a 1 day only big discounts with free  shipping.   I missed the 24 hour 1/2 price with free shipping on a brand new line last fall.  It hasn't been repeated since when it turned into a big seller.

My niece got dresses for all her bridesmaids for $15 each instead of $125 each by the time she was done with on-line discounts and coupons.  They even matched the style of her gown.  And actually had decent necklines and sleeves...

While Old Navy does have some rather immodest clothing, I find that their stuff is decently priced and made/cut well.
