The Bible Series On The History Channel

IMHO, they add too much to the script. Jesus said to Peter: "Come follow me, and I will make you a fisher of men." Not "We will change the world."...Give me a break. The Gospel is not a adventure/drama about "changing the world" but the story of our Savior and the Gospel--"good news"--of our salvation. Not about changing the world, rather about saving the world.

Jesus called Peter, a faithful (although "sinful") man, and Peter followed him. Jesus did not need to give Peter a reason. Discipleship has no other reason other than what it means--"to be a follower."

I do think that the angels were portrayed in a pretty bad-A way, though. They were pretty cool.

Only saw a few minutes of this series while at the in-laws.  But, whatever the show's shortcomings, I hardly think a modernistic "interpretation" of Biblical events would have improved it.

I'm of the old-fashioned, un-hip, and entirely un-cool view that the miracles recorded in the Bible were actually . . . miraculous.

I suppose it should also show the miracle of Christ getting everybody to share their loaves and fish to make it more "realistic" for unbelievers.  And the whole Resurrection thing's way too "fantastical," man.  Maybe a gradual resuscitation from serious injury would be more appropriate, and increase ratings with the atheist crowd.

But, what do I know - I'm a backwards troglodyte who attends the Latin mass.

I'm out of props.

Your comments make you look like you've only watched a few minutes of the series.

Well, I'm sure that the miracle of the bread turning into the body and blood of Jesus Christ at your mass resembles an overly produced over the top CGI production, complete with bloody effects, eyeliner and fake beards, but at the mass I attend, Jesus keeps it a bit more humble.

I kinda wish they would have made it more realistic, for the sake of non-believers. For me, it comes off too much like a play, and it's depicted too much like a "fantasy". For example, they show fireballs falling from the clouds to destroy Sodom... why not depict it in a way that might have actually occurred in nature, like a volcano? And the splitting of the Red Sea being depicted with the unnatural walls somehow being held in place on either side of a narrow tunnel... Why not show it in a way that some scientists say could have actually happened? I know it's not as dramatic, but I think depicting Biblical history in such a fantastical way does more harm than good, imho.

Make no mistake about it, History Channel's focus is to discredit believers. The "fantasy" setting is there on purpose. If you can't get people to look away from God, convince them it's all just a story.

I've heard it being talked about around campus and I was curious myself. I know some history majors have checked it out

Why is Jesus white in the series? Couldn't they find an Arab or a Middle Eastern Jew to play him?

Can someone answer a few questions for me about this series?

- How long is the series?

- Did the series start with Adam and Eve and intends to end with Christ? Hitting on major Biblical figures between like Abraham, Noah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon, Isaiah, John the Baptist?

- Is this a documentary, or a narrative-type story (actors with a narrator voice over)?

I keep hearing about it but I know relatively little.

5 weeks. Next week is week 4, and I am assuming the events will coincide with Easter.

It started with Adam and Eve and Noah as a very short "prelude". The main story line started with Abraham, and then yes, it went through all those people you mentioned, and Samson, and I forget.

It is not a documentary, it is a narrated movie.

Thanks for the answers - will you purchase it once it comes out on DVD?

I watched the first episode and based on that viewing I would not buy the DVD.
