Has anyone checked this out ? Is it any good ? I know its on the history channel and a lot of their stuff is a joke. I haven't had a tv for 3 and half years so I don't watch tv. But I did hear about this show and thought it might be good.

Starts tonight...Thought it already started...

I'll probably check out some of the first episode tonight if I'm not too tired. From what I've seen it looks like it could go either way.

It's been good so far, even if there was some artistic license taken with Moses trolling Pharaoh, by waiting until he was floating on his back in the Nile to turn it to blood. Also loved the artistic license taken with Pharaoh having a KHANNNNN moment with "MOOOSSSEEEESSSSS".

I thought the Pharaoh was killed in the sea.

Anyway, doesn't matter. Great series so far.

Ram, lamb. What's the difference?

Also, Moses was a much better public speaker in this Carmax Translation than he is in the actual Bible.

Also, why were the Bronze Age warriors in Sodom/Gomorrah wearing NOT-BRONZE armor? Armor that looked vaguely...iron in nature?

I enjoyed watching it with my seminarian friend though. But mostly for pointing out the mistakes of the Carmax Translation.

Well, I think they're taking artistic liberties to draw stronger parallels.  Like cutting out the golden calf to better transition into having Joshua as a leader.  Having a lamb instead of a ram parallels nicely with Passover.  So far I think the liberties have been okay.   :)

Edit: Plus I'm getting the strong sense that they're trying to do a TON of prefiguring of Christ stuffs.

I kinda wish they would have made it more realistic, for the sake of non-believers. For me, it comes off too much like a play, and it's depicted too much like a "fantasy". For example, they show fireballs falling from the clouds to destroy Sodom... why not depict it in a way that might have actually occurred in nature, like a volcano? And the splitting of the Red Sea being depicted with the unnatural walls somehow being held in place on either side of a narrow tunnel... Why not show it in a way that some scientists say could have actually happened? I know it's not as dramatic, but I think depicting Biblical history in such a fantastical way does more harm than good, imho.

I agree that it comes off too much like a play… but I think the problem is the acting. In my opinion, the acting is really weak and corny. It comes off in a way that isn't exactly appealing to a secular audience… the art is missing. That said, the stores are fairly accurate and make you want to read the Bible.

Is anybody still watching this? I'm ashamed to say that last week was a struggle to get through for me. There is entirely too much eyeliner in this series.

I'll watch tonight again though because of Jesus.

I guess I'm easy to please, but I am personally enjoying it and plan to watch it through to the end.

I think it is okay but my grandfather (a non-Catholic preacher) found some mistakes and so did my dad.  The acting is poor and it is more like a play than something that really happened

I can't help but notice the angel did NOT greet Mary as being full of Grace.  Nor did she speak the Magnificat.  And she's very fair skinned and switching between brunette and blonde depending on the camera angle.

Only saw a few minutes of this series while at the in-laws.  But, whatever the show's shortcomings, I hardly think a modernistic "interpretation" of Biblical events would have improved it.

I'm of the old-fashioned, un-hip, and entirely un-cool view that the miracles recorded in the Bible were actually . . . miraculous.

I suppose it should also show the miracle of Christ getting everybody to share their loaves and fish to make it more "realistic" for unbelievers.  And the whole Resurrection thing's way too "fantastical," man.  Maybe a gradual resuscitation from serious injury would be more appropriate, and increase ratings with the atheist crowd.

But, what do I know - I'm a backwards troglodyte who attends the Latin mass.
