Stephen Colbert Defends The Faith

I did not know that Colbert is Catholic. Yay!

He's got a Jesuit priest as the official chaplain of the Colbert Nation, who sometimes comes on the show to explain Catholics things (and does a very good job).  Sometimes he'll make a satirical joke about the Church needing to let women be priests, or criticizing the general hierarchy, but he does take his faith seriously.  He schools people who come on his show and try to bash the Church.

Once he did a whole extended thing about immigration reform and worked at a farm for a day picking beans, then testified before Congress in character.  When a senator asked him why he was doing this, he broke character and said something about wanting to help people who didn't have any power, quoted "whatever you do for the least of my brothers", and said that these people seemed like all of our least brothers right now.

Like I said, he's definitely not perfect, but I think it's really cool that he's able to use a little bit of his star power to shed positive light on Catholic things on Comedy Central, of all places. He's gotten the audience to cheer for something the pope said once (I can't remember what and when, just being happy that it happened).

I cannot watch any of the videos. :( Probably due to regional controls. I do not suppose anyone has a youtube link, or liveleak or something, do they?

That would have worked better if it autoplayed, or if you tricked me into clicking a link.

Wait, you mean people can actually see videos when posted on phatmass?   end up quoting the post and having to click a link within a post.

Yeah, on my browser it embeds as a playable video box. Which browser are you using?

Browser is irrelevant.  I tried that before.  I figured it was the site.

I have that problem with the site sometimes. Could be a forum glitch. God knows it is not hard to make the IPBoards glitch out.

As someone who did a project on Cesar Chavez once, I literally almost cried reading that. Awesome guy!

Stephen Colbert should join my group of defenders on @insta_catholic. Currently, I am the only one.

I would love to join it, if you get past the fact I watch ChurchMilitant.TV :P
