fearundercontrol
I went to confession yesterday and before I even had a chance to open my mouth to say the Act of Contrition, the Monsignor gave me absolution. Is it still a valid confession? Or do I need to go again? Edited March 2, 2013 by fearundercontrol
cappie
The rite does require the act of contrition. To skip it is illicit, i.e. contary to the law--though the sacrament is valid. It is still possible to say an act of contrition during the prayer of absolution, when I was a kid it was quite common that you would say the act of contrition whilst the priest said the words of absolution (in latin!). These days I suppose it's not that common and the priest should not do what he did. But the sacrament was valid
