Evangetholic
If I confess sins to my priest that I'm certain are mortal*, but he says aren't am I still forgiven after he absolves me? *He literally said that if you were raised Protestant this particular sin is a venial sin. cappie
Yes it is forgiven if the priest absolved you........Scrupulous people often ask, “What if I thought something might be a sin, is it a sin?†Thinking that something is a sinful act does not make it one. Some things are sinful acts because of their nature, and some things are sinful acts because the Church has determined that they are. Nothing, however, can be a sinful act simply because I want it to be. I can, however, let any action symbolize my desire to offend God and that desire is a sinful act. The knowledge that the matter is serious must be present before the sin is committed. This knowledge is not something you wonder about after the fact. If you know the matter is serious, you will remember that. Thinking that you might have known is not sufficient. Mortal sin is always a clear and certain choice. Your knowledge that the matter is grave matter is also clear and certain. If you have any doubts that you knew about the seriousness of the matter, then you must judge that you did not know it was a serious matter. No one, except you and God, knows what your sins are. Everyone may know what you did, but only you and God know if it was a mortal sin. Edited March 1, 2013 by cappie
