Apotheoun
I have absolutely no experience in conclave elections, so I don't know how long they normally last. How long have the past three lasted? Conclaves have varied in length throughout history. The longest Conclave lasted almost three years (1268-1271). Nihil Obstat
A new Pope fer my birfday would be pretty awesome. Nah, it will take three years, just like it did in 1268. :| Maybe your birthday in 2016.

OnlySunshine
That'd be crazy to be without a Pope for 3 years!
Nihil Obstat
That'd be crazy to be without a Pope for 3 years! Yes. That would be very hard on us. Highly unlikely though, I think maybe even impossible, given the current rules for conclaves.
KnightofChrist
Yes. That would be very hard on us. Highly unlikely though, I think maybe even impossible, given the current rules for conclaves. But if it did it would probably guarantee that we will not have another Papal Abdication for a very very long time, which I hope is the case anyway even without a prolonged Conclave. homeschoolmom
Are there any rules for choosing a name? I mean, could he choose "Pope Ralph I" for example?
EmilyAnn
I was wondering about name choices as well. Like could a pope choose like some male religious to have a female name like David Mary or something.

PhuturePriest
If there were a rule he could just change it. Not until he was Pope and had already decided on a name, however.

PhuturePriest
I wonder if Cardinals think about what their Papal name would be if they are elected when going into the conclave?
