Nihil Obstat
We should try to reconcile the SSPV really quickly, while we are both on the same page with the whole See of Rome being vacant thing. :| Might not have another opportunity of common ground like this for ten years or more. IMHO the regnal names of John, Paul, or John Paul are a little over saturated for the time being. I hope the next Pope picks one that hasn't been used in a while. I have been speculating for a while that Benedict XVII is most likely, and would indicate "business as usual". More likely for someone like Ouellet or Scola, who are very close to Benedict in all relevant respects. Pius XIII would make me a very happy camper though. Of course, I will not be surprised if something comes completely out of the blue. I am just enjoying my time of speculating wildly.

Nihil Obstat
Cardinal Sarr Day 2 Pius XIII Archbishop of Dakar. Marcel Lefebvre's old see (previously apostolic vicariate). :) Apparently Archbishop Lefebver is still very highly regarded in Dakar and Gabon. He did a lot of really, really great work there. He was one of the best. Why do you think it will be Cardinal Sarr? Edited February 28, 2013 by Nihil Obstat

KnightofChrist
While the possibility is rather low, I believe that if there is a lot of conflict in the Conclave, or the longer that it last the greater chance there is of the next Pope, being Pope Benedict XVI. Certainly there is a lot of turmoil in the Curia these days. They try to keep it out of the spotlight, but sometimes in breaks through anyway. Like the Muller - Bertone controversy just recently. And props to Bertone for calling Muller out on that. As much as I do not quite trust Bertone, I give credit where credit is due. But the bigger issue is that the whole thing should absolutely never have happened.

Nihil Obstat
Can you say what the controversy was? I don't have access to t.v. and gave up social media (except this) for Lent. Yeah, I will do my best. I am a little fuzzy on the details, so hopefully someone can correct me if I get anything wrong. Basically, there is a so-called Catholic university in Peru, which formally has/had the title of Pontifical University. But over time they have gone way off the rails, especially in terms of liberation theology, if I am not mistaken. The local Cardinal and Archbishop of Lima, Cipriani, was taking steps to remove the titles of Pontifical and Catholic for those reasons. Muller, prefect of the CDF, wrote a quasi-private letter to the university basically supporting them and saying that removing of those titles was not legitimate. Which, by the way, is incorrect canonically speaking. But Bertone then, who outranks Muller, stepped in and said that Muller was out of line, and declared that Muller's letter was "null and void". I believe this is the article I read on the subject last week.

Nihil Obstat
Cardinal Burke Day 3 Pope Augustine I would probably pass out from excitement. Literally. Funny little thing I can remember. Back when Pope Benedict was elected, like the day after (I was in grade eight), I had forgotten what regnal name he took, and for some reason my mind settled on Augustine. I nearly embarrassed myself by saying it out loud. I'm hoping for a Pope Paul VII. Why is that? Just curious.
