ummm...maybe the older and wiser members of the pham can help me out.... in world civ (world history) and bio...

OK, world civ i got through italian and german unification, now i am at the world wars (kinda easy) but after that...

1. Which Presidents were the most important ones during the Cold War?

2. Korea and Vietnam....would you say the US was successful enforcing containment (holding back the spread of communism)?

3. uumm....I don;t understand at all what happened in Cuba during Kennedy's presidency, can someone maybe summarize? :sadder:

4. Palestine/Israeli conflict...."to which extent is the current Israeli/Palestine conflict rooted in ethnic nationalism"....umm, how would you answer that.....i would say extremely, but that doesnt work

ok bio now

1. Is this right: Thymine is replaced by uracil in RNA (DNA has thymine).

2. Is peristalisis the "series of wavelike muscular contractions"only from the mouth down the esophagus to the stomach or all through digestion?

3. Does only rough ER (Endoplasmic Reticulum) have ribosomes>

sorry, these are really messed-up, weird questions, but it's late and my school is having the two biggest finals on the same day :sadder: :sadder:

I hate finals SO much.

Each person who helps me gets a rosary prayed for them once finals are done

Here's something on ribosomes I found on the internet
Where are ribosomes found?

Ribosomes are found dispersed in the cytoplasm of all prokaryotic cells: bacteria. They are also found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells: protists, fungi, plants, and animals, where they are either free to float in the cytoplasm or are bound to networks of endoplasmic reticulum which are membrane-enclosed tubules in the cytoplasm. Also, in eukaryotic cells, two types of cell structures called mitochondria and chloroplasts contain ribosomes.
1. Most important? Well... all of 'em ;) but mainly Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and certainly Reagan.

2. Yes and no... complex question.

3. Cuban Missle Crisis (in a nutshell): Soviet Union wanted to bring in nuclear weapons into Cuba... too close to the US for Kennedy's liking... there was a big showdown... It could have ended up in war... thankfully it didn't.

4. They've been fighting over that land for a long time. As I remember it... After the Temple fell in Jerusalem in 70 AD, the whole of that area was taken over by Muslims... then the Crusaders faught for it back. It was made a Jewish state again in 1947. But that displaced a lot of Muslims.

(Man, I am probably displaying my ignorance... next year do your own homework Vera! )

I had two terrible math teachers in high school... one was retiring and the other was the baseball coach... did not learn a thing about math. I can empathize. Did my answers make sense? Do you want to elaborate? PM me if you want more information or clarification.

yeah, my math teacher this year is quitting teaching and going to law school next year  so i learned zero math...what i did learn i taught myself...

For tomorrow they gave us 5 essay topics we may have to do, i understand and can write about 3 of them, and sort of about the other two...but yeah.

I have to write an essay like this : "Discuss whether or not the US was successful in implementing its policy of containment using two of the following countries as your examples....: Korea, Viernam or Cuba"

the answer is always yes and no....but what could I write....

and another one is the israeli/palestinian one....ok, I think i can write enough about that since i follow current events a lot...Israelis = Jewish = have country, Palestinians = want country (especially want Gaza Strip and west bank back), mostly muslim (?)

How long are they supposed to be? The Korea/Vietnam/Cuba one could get pretty lengthy!

#2 - on Korea and Vietnam - The U.S., while it was involved in the area, was successful in holding back the stem of the red mencace (apologies to any communists on the board - they might want to read Quadragesimo Anno par. 120), however, once we left, China's communism swept it, slaughtering as it went. Case in point: Cambodia, probably over two million dead in a small county. Horrid stuff.
In Christ,
Dave
