TeDeum
It's interesting how a couple of her sentences sound exactly the same in Arabic as they do in English.

TeDeum
Oh duh, Pakistanis aren't Arabs, so they probably wouldn't speak Arabic as a first language. :paperbag: That's what I get for staying awake until 3 am.
4588686
Urdu has a lot of Arabic words in it. It was an army language. Developed on the fault-lines of empires.
Evangetholic
Urdu's an Indo-European language. It's more closely related to English than Arabic; but yes religion and the history of Empire have led to it being something of a "soup" language. "Urdu" is also only a political/ethnic/religious term for Hindi believe it or not.

mortify
Ok, so somewhat interesting. In a sense both were right, the Cleric arguing from the standards of religion and the actress from the standards of sincere intentions. The same divide is used against Christians as when we see the poor your girl being forced into an abortion due to her circumstances, and the religious conservatives criticizing her. Who is right in these divides? We can at least say who is portrayed to be right, and that is the side that undermines the extrinsic aspects of religious life. It's common to hear people say externals are not important, it's what's "inside the heart" that really counts, and although there is some truth to this there is no doubt that if the heart possesses the right substance it will manifest externally. You can't have the external at odds with the internal, they have to be hormoniously united. Anyway, I find it it interesting that MEMRI chose this fragment, it is an organization accused of being strongly pro-Zionist and anti-Islamic. I suppose they seek to give light to reports that damage their enemy, we just have to remember that the same tactics were used against us.
mortify
"The stories selected by Memri for translation follow a familiar pattern: either they reflect badly on the character of Arabs or they in some way further the political agenda of Israel. I am not alone in this unease." http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2002/aug/12/worlddispatch.brianwhitaker
Evangetholic
I, quarter Jew though I may be, lol, am pretty far from being a Zionist. I generally like Memri though.

Quarter Jew is a noun not an adjective, as an adjective "Jew" is antisemitic.
