Madiesensei
Here's the thing, I've been looking into becoming catholic, I feel that this conversion will help me defend the christian faith and draw me and God closer together. I've heard there's different variations of catholics and the orthodox church is similar to the catholic church, I don't know where to start honestly. I would like to attend a roman catholic church, but I don't know if there's any differences in the catholic churches period.
MIKolbe
This might be a good for a general discription of what you are talking about: http://www.ewtn.com/expert/answers/catholic_rites_and_churches.htm I would venture to say that most on here are Roman Catholics, or Roman Rite; however the semantics work out. ToJesusMyHeart
There's what MIkolbe posted, and there is also a distinction in liturgical (and otherwise) worship and devotional practices between those Roman Catholics who attend Novus Ordo parishes and those who attend Traditional Roman Catholic parishes. So that's another thing to consider. :) Edit: The article MIkolbe posted mentions this briefly. Edited February 25, 2013 by ToJesusMyHeart
Basilisa Marie
Welcome! :) Roman Catholics are the most common kind of Catholic around here, and in the US. It'd probably be easiest to find a Roman rite church to attend, and you can probably safely assume that a church will be in the Roman rite, unless they say otherwise in their name or especially a parish website. Just know that you can't receive communion at a Catholic Church (you can just stay seated in your pew during communion, it's totally fine), and there are usually missalette books in the pews to help you follow along with what's going on. Even within the Roman rite ordinary form of liturgy, there's a lot of diversity from contemporary styles to traditional styles (mostly with the music). FutureSister2009
I've always been and always will be Roman Catholic but other forms of Catholicism fascinate me. I guess that's the Theology major in me.
Madiesensei
I'm looking into some classes to take so I can convert, and get closer to Christ. It makes me wonder about my family who is methodist, and my grandparents who were, if they were devoted and true to their faith I'd like to think they're sitting with Jesus right now. But I chose catholism so I can defend my faith, other christians, and get closer to him and to spread love without being overly religious or annoying.
