I think that pushups are a good addition to any workout plan.  They engage a lot of major muscle groups.  I personally kind of got out of exercising during Bosnia and then with the other stuff I have been doing it was hard to really get back into a regular exercise routine.  But I've begun running, biking, and does calisthenics and I am enjoying myself.  What are other phatmassers doing to get into/stay in shape?

I've done karate since I was four. We don't generally do things like running or lifting weights, but doing physical stuff like that really makes you fit. I was at a Japanese katana seminar on Saturday for three hours, and anyone who says the samurai were weak are complete morons. My right arm and shoulder have been killing me all day.

My topic isn't boring.  You're boring.  That's why you're uncle never calls.

Maybe not, but your mom calls me constantly. Dude, make her stop.

I do school. Then I go to physical therapy. And then come home and eat pizza and candy. And then I watch the X-files.

Don't you see how intense my workout is?

I've been doing a lot more walking lately. Running never works out well for me, so I'm accepting walking as my replacement. I burn the same calories, it just takes me five times as long to do it. I'm also cycling and doing light weight exercises. Maybe one day I'll add yoga back in...

Let's keep this on topic, please :)

Not everyone wants the same shape. Some of us prefer the shape we get by sitting.

I'm sitting.

Round is a shape...

My routine varies a bit, I am a distance runner ( think 1/2 - full marathon distance) and I take a good break during the winter months as I HATE treadmills and running in the cold isn't fun for me. I do ALOT of core exercises, push-ups, sit-ups with variations. I've done P90X a couple of cycles which is good if you have limited space, I also do a fair bit of yoga which is fantastic for core and flexibility.

Since my university is in such a tiny town in Missouri, my fellow med and grad students and I either study from morning until night or workout and study from morning until night (Its like a nerdy Sparta!).

Since I've been here, my good friend has redeveloped our crossfit club, which I do three nights a week, and our weight lifting club, which I do one to two nights a week.

When the weather warms up, I love to run on the more rural back roads around town, since its one gigantic 5 mile grid, but I try to work the legs at least twice a week as well. That, and hit the tennis courts at the state college nearby, but until then its racquetball :)

I've started going to the gym every morning before work and using a precor machine similar to an eliptical but w/o arm movements. I prefer it to the eliptical as it has cross training programs that adjust the angle and height of the foot pedals to work different muscle groups. It also has you pedal backwards half the work out.

Been doing it two weeks straight, and will be makign it a regular habit. I'm obligated now that I signed a contract for the gym membership. My wife will chase me around the house with a sharp knife if I don't go to the gym because of all the money wasted. I guess running from her would be a workout in itself. Win win situation :)
