I was born October 6, 1996. You're not even older by a month.

DC, I apologize for teasing you about eating goats a few posts ago.... it is one thing if animals are raised for food; if we are meat-eaters, that is a reality.. but it is different to have them as pets or for their beautiful wool.  I'm very sorry if I pushed your buttons.  :paperbag:

Please accept my apology.

Your neighbor has geese... and I think a little egret! AND goats! I am VERY jealous.

Looks like you live out in the country somewhere... you are blessed.  I live outside of San Francisco, and we are rural enough to get animals like skunks, possums and an occasional fox... but no livestock.  I AM JEALOUS!!!!

Part of my not-wanting-to-hear-about-eating-goats has to do with the fact that one of the goats (one of my favorite ones) hasn't had kids, so they probably have to get rid of her unless she has a kid this year. I really like her and I know that if she can't "earn her keep" she can't stay, but she's the funniest one of the bunch and she has a heck of a personality, so I really don't want them to send her off to the chop. I think that Mrs. S. mentioned that she's a dairy goat, so I don't know if they'd turn her into barbecue or not. If I had a bigger yard, I'd buy the goat myself. If she's sold to someone who won't eat her, I probably won't be as upset. I'm not like, anti-meat-eating...I'm fine with it, and I'd probably be even fine eating goat...even maybe some of the other goats that my neighbors have. :| But not that one goat.

As for the other critters...

The egrets are mostly idiots...they stand underneath cows, horses, sit on horses backs...don't really do much besides that. :smile3:

I found out from Buzzy (the farmhand...) yesterday that we actually have coyotes in the woods here. It's not SUPER rural, but we have small patches of woods. We do have skunks (you can really smell 'em when they get hit by cars), possums (they're so stupid that they can't stay out of the road at night), and foxes. We have a herd of cows across the street and our neighbors (with the goats) are agisting someone's five horses. There's another herd of goats down the street and another herd a few streets away in my neighborhood. My next-door neighbor has (really, really stinky :x ) chickens and two mongrel dogs. My other next-door neighbor has a dog that looks like a big round tube with legs because he's so fat.

Meanwhile...I have a crazy gang of lizards, but no livestock. :|

If there was a rule than you wouldn't have me here today... don't ya' feel blessed :p

DC I can relate to how you feel about your favorite goat and not being able to have kids... I raised a calf for my grandaddy about 7 or 8 years ago and it has had several calves but only one has survived.  Last year Honey (my grown up calf) gave birth to twins on a snowy President's Day.  Usually twins don't make it so I was kinda weary if Grandaddy would keep Honey if the calves died.  The calves died at seperate times (Courageous, the male calf, died two weeks after he was born and Milky (the female calf) died in October sometime.)  Honey got pregnate and gave birth to another calf in early January... the calf sadly died before I got to even meet it.  And now on top of everything my Grandaddy is thinking of selling Honey!

So yeah... I can kinda relate.
