OnlySunshine
What does it mean when a community is formally dissolved as a public association of the faithful? Are they still in union with the church? If they are dissolved, I believe it means that the local Bishop did not approve of their activities or rule. Case in point: the order in Omaha, NE that was suppressed by Archbishop Lucas in 2010 is no longer a Catholic community. From a news article: His action, known in church lingo as a suppression, not only erased the Intercessors’ status as a Catholic association, it also estranged them from much of their primary market, the Catholic faithful. This means they cannot address themselves as Catholic religious. In fact, the same community has become non-denominational because they are not welcome and the Superior was disobedient. I will not name the order here since it is against dUSt's rule for VS but PM me if you want to know.
Guest brandy_jo
Actually the individual members may be Catholic, but the organization itself is not officially Catholic. This is the case with the Nebraska situation. It is not that the individual members are no longer in union with the Church.
savvy
I saw the Community of the Ephipany listed on the traditional religious orders page. When, I looked at their history, it said, they were dissolved in 2010.
Guest brandy_jo
I think, though I may be wrong, that being "dissolved" might just mean that the community had to end, for whatever reason. Being "suppressed" is different- this is when the Church, often through the local bishop, intervenes.
Gabriela
Here's hoping this won't start any kind of food fight... Is suppressing the LCWR communities an option? Has that been considered? Do you think it'd ever be done?

Has that been considered? Do you think it'd ever be done? I suggest not bringing this up. Our beloved Sr. Marie's community is part of the LCWR and these discussions always end in hurt feelings.
