Nightmare

So I had this nightmare today durning a nap and I look out the window and this huge tornado is right outside the window and I'm struck with extreme fear. I run to the basement and get down there and I'm with my dad. Were both close together and I can just sense were about to be hit. And then we are to some extent and thrown across the space were in. And just as I'm anticipating another violent blast from this tornado I say Jesus help me and at that instant I wake up. It was a real nightmare and took me a couple minutes to calm down. Dreams are so real. Another interesting thing was when I said Jesus help me it was like my own conscience convicted me of recent bad choices I've made and how I was a fool asking for Gods help and surely I would have to pay the price this time and suffer. Even though those thoughts seem like they would take a while to think over they were in a fraction of a second from the time I said help me Jesus. Hard to explain. But anyhow Jesus instanly woke me up from the dream and I was just sorta in shock. I know you can explain it away as it not having anything to with God and just me dreaming blah blah. But it was beyond real to me. Also in this christian book I bought a long time ago that is supposed to interpet dreams tornados are described as spirtual warfare. I've had dreams with tornados before. This was the first time where it actually "hit" and threw me across the room. So anyhow just thought I would share. Have a good Lent. Godbless.

Also I know peeps here think cats are the devil. lol Anyhow this book also says cats in dreams are a symbol for demons. And I've had dreams before where these small cats are just biting the heck out of me and chasing me around the house or room I'm in. For what seems like forever and its painfull. Like to whatever extent you can feel pain in a dream I feel it. It hurts and feels like I'm am getting bitten by a cat for real. So ya. Anyhow I guess from my dreams I'm in spirtual warfare and have demons. Hmmmm seems pretty accurate lol. God help me.

I think my conclusion from the tornado dream after some prayer is that God is faithful to save us even when we don't feel like we deserve it. Like I said I remember in the dream saying Jesus help me just as I was anticipating getting struck again by this violent tornado. And then in a brief moment thinking well God isn't going to help me because of what I've done. And then right after that thought I'm woken up. So even when we don't deserve it or feel unworthy God is still faithful. It sorta reminds me of the verse in the Bible where it says anyone who calls on the Lord and believes in their heart He's God will be saved. But then it goes on to say but how can they call on whom they have not believed in. In my dream I knew Jesus was real and I asked Him to save me and He did. God is good.

Dream analysis books are a load of rubbish. It's dumb Freudian stuff that has no basis in any fact.

This is a christian book by a christian...Not making a case for it one way or the other...I do believe God will communicate through dreams though and the Bible seems to back that up...But ya as far as this book goes I'm not really into it...Bought it years ago and sometimes I will see what it says about my dreams when they are spirtual in nature like this one was...

I do not deny that God can speak to us through dreams. But if He does then He is going to make His message clear, not have us look it up in a book. Whether it's a Christian book or not, dream analysis like that is just an outdated Freudian idea that for some reason people have never let go of and unscrupulous people make money out of.

No, she's talking about modern dream interpretation. That's WAY different than what you're talking about.

Delivery, if a dream worries you, talk to a priest.  Don't consult some "Christian" dream interpretation book.  Books like those are always scams at best, or at worst are a temptation to get into psychic kinds of stuff (astrology, possibly occult related, etc - false idols).  Sometimes dreams are our mind's way of telling us that something is bothering us.  But if you think your dream is spiritual and it bothers you, I sincerely recommend talking with your local priest.   :)

Sure, God might speak to us in dreams, I won't rule out that possibility.  But they're probably things meant for you to understand in your own spiritual life. But again - talk to a priest if it bothers you.

Not the same thing as what these stupid scam books promote. THAT has it's roots in Freudian psychoanalysis and is pure and utter garbage.

Where do you think the basis of his stuff comes from?  He wasn't that smart that he pulled it out of thin air.

There are some valuable books on dream interpretation as well as good sites like "dream moods" that walk the line between art and science common sence.

I actually find dream moods website very helpful.  It's very innocuous, nothing occult (some of the ads can be).  It is geared towards americans.  (eg. dreaming of baseball means you want X, hamburgers mean Y)

Pulling stuff out of thin air doesn't involve intelligence, it involves an ability to make stuff up. And Freud was very good at that. I suspect it had something to do with all that cocaine.

Saying "dreaming of x means y" is just nonsense.

Err, but I'm saying he didn't even HAVE to make it up.  It's only in modern times that we are SO FAR disconnected from our dreams.  Freud popularized certain theories that are not correct, and he may have put unnecessary weight on dream meanings.  However, that dosn't change that since humans could live, breathe and communicate they have been interpreting dreams.  In some cultures your name comes out of your dreams.

Saying that dreaming X means Y is not nonsense   We live in a very symbol filled world.  If I put up a red octagon or even a hexagon you would probably identify that as "stop".  Our dreams work the same way as our waking mind.  We don't love Christmas trees becuase we want to kill a tree and put it into our home to prove we have power over nature, we chop down a tree and put it in our living room as the center of our celebration.  We sit and wonder in it's lights becuase it reminds us of Christmas' past, of love, family and hope for the future.  Pictures of christmas trees can evoke warm memories and feelings of love.  That's the general consensous.  Of course, if you had a bad life, Christmas could evoke the opposite and you would learn to distance yourself from Christmas practices in order to spare yourself pain.

In the same way dreams work with this in our mind.  If you love Christmas and dream of it over and over your mind is trying to provide for you an image of comfort and home.  It's not rocket science...it's just logic, and having a dictonary of common dreams and common meanings is not some Freudian conspisary, it's common sence.

Modern dream analysis, along with these "dictionaries" and other books, are pop psychology at its very worst. There is no basis for any of it in any realm of science. Just because something happened centuries or millennia ago doesn't automatically make it great and fantastic.

I don't think any real psychologist considers dream dictionaries, no matter how reputable the source to be 100% reliable.  They're just there to be guides, not Bibles.
