ToJesusMyHeart
One thing to keep in mind, is that many (perhaps most) of the girls who enter the popular communities like the NDs or SMMEs in any given year will not reach the novitiate. While many of these women realize they are not called to religious life at all, others will glean from the experience that they are called to cloistered life instead of active! Truly it's not a zero sum game. That might be true for the dsmme, but it's not true for the NDs. I was just talking to Sister PM about this (the VD), and she said that on average 20 young women enter postulancy each August, and 17 remain in the convent all the way until profession of vows. The SOL also have a 7/9 ratio of women remain in the convent.
Debra Little
That is always beautiful to hear! But the thing that always troubles me the most is that there are so many girls interested in active life, while the cloisters are having such a difficult time getting Vocations. That's heartbreaking. i loved the Carmelties but they asked me to leave because of my health. if they didn't have an age limit and limit for the no of sisters in their communities i think they would get more women joining. but the way it is now it's very hard. and people shouldn't have to leave because of health issues. but that's how it was. i still miss the Sisters very much. Debra Little
That's a shame. I'm sorry to hear that. it happens. i just don't think health should be such an issue. and the different groups of sisters seem to limit the amount of people that can be in the monastery at one time. why not have a hundred instead of twenty five or thirty? Guest Allie
I agree with that. I think it is absolutely beautiful to live a life dedicated to prayer for the salvation of souls and for the world. I still think about the cloister sometimes but I'm not completely sure though. Hi Sis I love the Nashies -graduated from one of their high schools. They are super supportive of my discerning a cloistered, non-Dominican, life. God willing, I'm gonna be a Poor Clare.
