Because This Really Is Lame...

I need some advice/info on somethin'. I have a small infection in my foot that my dad says has to be opened up and cleaned out (sorry if TMI). It doesn't hurt unless I put a lot of pressure on it (I.E. step on the corner of a raised tile on the infected spot), but there is a little hole in my foot. Will I probably have to wear a boot after I get it taken care of? I really don't want to deal with that nonsense. I'm putting silver on it and all that and it really doesn't hurt, so I don't know why I'd have to. I can do socks and shoes - at least on one foot - full time for a while, but there's no way I could fully function with a boot.

Oh yeah, and I hate going to the doctors. I'm fine with needles and weird-looking tools, but I hate being weighed. Though I'm not sure that'll be necessary for a trip to the foot doctor. :| :annoyed:

My best guess is they'll not bother with a boot or anything for something like that, unless your infection is really really severe. Even then, I don't think they would. If I had to guess I'd say they'll probably have you clean it regularly and just use a fairly standard bandage and maybe some antibiotics, though I am not sure. But then I'm no nurse or doctor, it's just how it's gone for me.

I would say probably not because 1. you'll need to be able to get to it easily to keep it clean and 2. a boot seems like something that would promote further infection especially where there is an open wound or incision.

P.S. being weighed is my least favorite part of most doctor's visits as well.

I'd be surprised if they have to weigh me just to clean out an infection...but whatever. I'm not the skinniest person ever, so it's really awkward for me. And Groo, it's not on my toe...it's on the side of my foot on the underside. It's like on the middle of the right side of my foot. I think I may have gotten a splinter in there that never came out or something.

I share your hate for seeing doctors. ;)

I don't know anything about foot infections, so I'll just pray for you. Haha!

Go to the doctor!  Cellulitis can be very serious. Need to nip it in the bud if is it cellulitis.

It's not cellulitis. I think that the area where the splinter is just got infected. My dad's been a doctor longer than I've been alive and he said that it isn't really a huge deal. My foot, I mean.

Didn't know your dad's a doctor. If so, then you did take my advice. You're welcome.

I've had more trouble with my feet than I care to think about.

Glad your father the doctor has reassured you.   It might hurt a little bit, but you really do need to get it cleaned out.  It shouldn't be really bad.... and then it will heal properly.  If you leave stuff in there, it can cause extra problems.

And... it's possible you still do have something in there, so they need to be sure.  I walked around with a little piece of glass in my foot for about SIX MONTHS... which explained why it hurt to walk on it

My bet is that they will make sure there is nothing in there and clean whatever infection that is in there out (more like popping a blister than anything...) and they might give you some antibiotic ointment for the foot and/or give you a bandage, they might tell you to stay off it for a few days, and they might give you some antibiotics by mouth if there is an infection going on in there.  But nothing too serious.

At one point they had to go into my foot a little more seriously and they gave me a 'nerve block' which was like a novicaine shot to the foot.  Hurt like a shot for a few seconds, and then my foot felt 'asleep' for about 5 hours.  Odd to walk on, but it didn't hurt.  Hurt a little bit when the nerve block wore off, but advil or something like that covers that amount of pain if you can't tolerate it.

You'll be fine, DC....

DC... did we totally miss the pun about this being a 'lame' question -- or was that not intended!  I just re-read it and started laughing....

What have you decided to do?

;) I'm surprised that it took y'all that long to get it. My dad's gonna try and make an appointment today. I'm just hoping that maybe they won't have to weigh me, since my infection is so localized. :| It's not like they weigh you PUBLICLY or anything...oh, wait.

And what happened to your foot sounds a lot like what's going on with my foot.

Yes, we certainly SHOULD have noticed such a LAME joke!  ;) ;) ;)   You are getting as evil as ME!   :brutebeast:

I doubt they will even think about weighing you... and if they do it is something to give to Jesus, yes?

My bet is it will feel a whole lot better once they are done.  I couldn't believe what a difference it made.

Appointment scheduled for 5:00... :pinch: My foot doesn't even hurt when I walk on it, so I doubt that it will feel better after they cut it open in a billion places, but okay. LOL I honestly don't care what they do to me as long as they don't weigh me. :|
