Favorite Books Of The Bible

I was just wondering, what are your favorite books of the Bible, and why? My favorite books (So far. I haven't read them all.) are all four accounts of the Gospels, and the book of James. I can't say which book of the Gospel I like the most. I love Matthew because I like his particular writing style and how he shows the Davidic line never ended, I like Mark because it's short and to the point, I like Luke because it stresses being historical, and for its accounts of Mary, and I like John because it is the most theologic of the four. I like the book of James mostly because the first debate I ever got into was faith and works, and I had no clue what I was doing and I opened the Bible and just happened to open it on James 2:14 through James 2:21.

Luke is my favorite Gospel becuase there's so much of Blessed Mary in it.

Hebrews is my favorite catholic letter (yes that's what they are called, lol).

And Isaiah is my favorite Old Testament book, because it is so clearly about the coming of the Lord Jesus.

But the entire collection of texts (unless you accidently happen upon a genealogy) is music to me. It's a "lamp unto my feet."

Last Lent I tried reading the entire Bible from the beginning to the end. I was doing well, but when Lent ended I decided I would have to be paid to pain myself through another page of Deutoronomy. :P I've just yet to find that book in the Bible that I legitimately enjoy, I guess. Yesterday I actually finished the last few chapters I didn't read from last year, and then now I'm reading from Matthew onward.

The Gospels lad, the Gospels--particularly the Gospels of John and Luke. You might also consider the Psalms; Catholics in my experience usually have have very good prayer lives and take to praying the Psalms like fish take to water.

Sirach is one of my favorites. My favorite verse from Sirach is 6:14-17. It reminds me of all the wonderful friends God has placed in my life. My friends and I actually refer to this verse as our theme scripture verse.

I love the Gospels of Luke and John. Luke I like because a priest for confession gave me the penance to read and pray about Chapter 1, and ever since then I've read the whole Gospel because I liked it. The Gospel of John I like because it has given me a foundation of where my faith has been rooted. I just feel connected to Christ when I read it.

Song of Songs I like too. It's just so beautiful to read. Sometimes it gets a little awkward, but it is a good book to read on God's love.

Of course I like both letters to the Corinithians, James, and 1 John.

I like Sirach, especially 6:5-17

I also like the Psalms

I read the Bible on a three year schedule and have done for 8 years now. I actually find Chronicles to be the most difficul to get through.

John for it's logos theology in the prologue.

Philippians - "Be excellent."

Corinthians - "Love one another"

Thessalonians - "New life in Christ"

Galatians - "You stupid Galatians!"

Acts - "Luke Pt. 2"

Haha! I like Romans because it's pretty much "Stop drinking and fornicating with each other, you disgusting slobs!" :P

The Gospel of John is like a really good book that you love to read and every time you read it, you notice something you didn't notice the last time you read it.

The Gospel of John for the reasons he stated.  Also the explanation of the Eucharist in John 6 and the first chapter has some of the most powerful prose I've ever read.

If you haven't read it already, Stephen Ray has a book entirely dedicated to the Gospel of John and all of the amazing things in it. You can't look at it the same after you read the book.

I have read the whole Bible (NRSV:CE).  It took me six years.  I think if you just want to be entertained Judges is the most action packed fun.  Sirach is my favorite amongst the awesome books of wisdom.  My fave Gospel is St. Mark cause of it's shortness and it's influenced by my confirmation saint St. Peter (Well ultimately influenced by God, but you know what I am saying), then St. Matthew because it was directed at those who understood the old covenant well, then St. John (It's longer), then St. Luke (The women's Gospel).  My fave letter is St. James.  Micah 6:8 sums up the entire Bible the scholars say lol so that's a good one to to read from the prophetic books lol.  I like Genesis and Exodus a lot.  Revelations is def one of my faves and I am big on Acts.

Leviticus, it is an often misunderstood and overlooked book, many consider it dry and boring, but to me it is a very pastoral book that when we stop and pray, ask the WHY the book is beautiful and can open up so much of the faith to us.
