God's Beloved
I found the following message very helpful : Benedict XVI, Message for Lent 2007Let us look at Christ pierced on the Cross! He is the unsurpassing revelation of God's love, a love in which eros and agape, far from being opposed, enlighten each other. On the Cross, it is God himself who begs the love of his creature: He is thirsty for the love of every one of us. The Apostle Thomas recognized Jesus as "Lord and God" when he put his hand into the wound of his side. Not surprisingly, many of the saints found in the Heart of Jesus the deepest expression of this mystery of love. One could rightly say that the revelation of God's erostoward man is, in reality, the supreme expression of his agape. In all truth, only the love that unites the free gift of oneself with the impassioned desire for reciprocity instils a joy which eases the heaviest of burdens. Jesus said: "When I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men to myself" (Jn 12: 32). The response the Lord ardently desires of us is above all that we welcome his love and allow ourselves to be drawn to him. Accepting his love, however, is not enough. We need to respond to such love and devote ourselves to communicating it to others. Christ "draws me to himself" in order to unite himself to me, so that I learn to love the brothers with his own love. http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/lent/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20061121_lent-2007_en.html
whitneyelizabeth
MarysLittleFlower, God bless you for your honesty and eagerness to please Jesus! Looks like a lot of other very wise people have already put in their two cents but I figured I'd add a little something :) I totally "get" where you're coming from because I had this very same question myself, and, since I'm very lucky to have a spiritual director (a very prayerful priest), I asked him and several other priests in confession (feeling very shy and abashed) and they all said that this is perfectly ok (bearing in mind, as you clearly do, that Jesus is GOD not just a normal guy but He is very eager to be close to us in a very real, concrete physical way, especially in the Eucharist, to give His love to us and to be intimately united with us). Perhaps the best piece of advice that they gave me was to talk to Jesus about what I was feeling and desiring, trying to be honest and candid like a little child. This has brought me so much closer to Him because I can be much more honest with Jesus, knowing how patient and full of love He is and how He wants to know the deepest secrets of our hearts.
