Paladin D
Would owning Coca-Cola Memorbilia (or purchasing it for that matter), be considered a Mortal Sin? Considering I heard in another thread, that the owner funds abortion? Would it also be a Mortal Sin, if I were to play http://www.cokemusic.com? Which is free. dUSt
I don't think it would be mortal. It might be venial.
Paladin D
Also, would buying a bottle of Coke once in a great while, be a Mortal Sin? If I were to boycott... it would make little difference. Considering millions still purchase it.

Anna
Why not write to the Coca Cola company and express your enthusiasm for their products, and your disappointment with their philanthropic contributions to such controversial organizations? I really don't believe that drinking coke, collecting memorabilia, or listening to tunes is mortally sinful. We can hardly keep up with Planned Parenthood's long list of contributors. If we had to boycott all Planned Parenthood's sponsors, we'd probably have to go into our back yards and just eat grass, for goodness sakes. But when we do learn that something we support often is involved, we should voice our opposition. If all the pro-life coke drinkers did, doncha think it would make a difference? pax Christi. <>< Edited May 25, 2004 by Anna
foundsheep
Thats a good point Anna. Come to think of it basically every soft drink company is in some form or way attached to something we deem inappropriate.
Anna
And that is just on the topic of abortion. There are lobbyists for all sorts of things that are contrary to our beliefs: businesses are pressured to donate certain amounts to organizations just to keep the peace (kinda like protection money). Didn't the gay rights people give Celestial Seasonings a hard time a while back because the tea makers didn't donate to the homosexual cause? Why should tea harvesters be giving money to homosexual lobbyists? Well, to avoid negative publicity. Most companies would rather pay up than debate the controversial issues. They'll even give money to both sides, in an attempt to try to please everyone...

Ash Wednesday
There are an unbelievable amount of products out there that are tied to PP. All Proctor & Gamble products, for example -- makers of Ivory soap, pringles potato chips, Crest toothpaste, Tampax, Always, Oil of Olay, Covergirl, Mr. Clean, Dawn, Tide, Bounty, Gain, Cheer, Bounce, Bold, Aussie Haircare, Charmin, Folgers Coffee, Head & Shoulders, Herbal Essences, Iams pet foods, max factor, Clairol, NyQuil, Pampers, Pantene, Pepto Bismol, Vidal Sassoon... Plus there is Johnson & Johnson, Bristol Meyers, and Philip-Morris/Kraft, which together includes: Band Aid, Tang, di Giorno, Starbucks, Oscar Meyer cold cuts, Nabisco, and cereals including Alpha-Bits, Banana Nut Crunch, Blueberry Morning, Cinna-Cluster, Raisin Bran, Cranberry Almond Crunch,  Frosted Shredded Wheat, Fruit & Fibre, Golden Crisp, Grape-Nuts, Great Grains, Honey Bunches of Oats, Honeycomb, Natural Bran Flakes, Oreo O's, Pebbles,  Raisin Bran, Shredded Wheat... Not to mention, Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Pizza hut, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, Calvin Klein, American Express, Subaru, AT&T many other corporations, and last but not least, our tax dollars. So, like Anna said, sitting in the back yard eating grass is the most realistic option... if drinking a coke is a mortal sin then God help all of us. But I don't think it is. Rather than sit in our backyards and eat grass, do things actively to combat abortion. Supporting smaller businesses and open source software is cool to do, anyway. 1337 k4th0l1x0r
Eating grass is the best policy as your lawnmower is made by a company that more than likely donates money to planned parenthood or some similar organization.

Mary's Knight, La
seems culpability usually involves "formal" cooperation or enabling while this can easily be debated and i'm not a moral theologian (yet perhaps) I think formal cooperation for the sin of donating to planned parenthood rests in the choice to give the money to them. by buying things you might be materially responsibile but i think it would be the same type of responsibility as if someone pushed you out of a window and you fell on another person killing them (yes it's morbid but bear with me) is it your fault for standing near the window knowing they'll push you out? or is it their fault for taking advantage of your positioning? It seems the the greater fault would lie with the person making the choice to push you as that's what makes your standing near the window bad
