r2Dtoo
Then the judge can find a more respectable line of work. Maybe piano player in a whorehouse. Story about a robed thug overseeing the kidnapping of a woman. http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/Woman-Gives-Judge-Middle-Finger-Gets-30-Day-Sentence-for-Contempt-189691991.html And we're supposed to be enraged by what, exactly? Winchester
And we're supposed to be enraged by what, exactly? I don't expect anyone to be enraged. I happen to find kidnapping morally repugnant. Maybe you don't.
fides' Jack
:idontknow: It is not unusual that a cop is inclined, for whatever reason, to be a jerk, just because they can. Yet if you do not respond with perfect deference, you get squished. I am not ok with that, just because they have a shiny badge. That is the way it is, but that does not mean I have to appreciate it. My best man is a cop. (is that grammatically right? The person who was my best man is a cop.) I'm sure there are some like that, but it's been my impression that most are good family men. Maybe it's the area. (And I've been pulled over a LOT :) ) You have to remember that every time they pull someone over, they put their life on the line, and they know it. It's a stressful job. Winchester
Someone was kidnapped in that article? If you threw someone in a cage for shooting the finger at you, what crime would you be charged with? Pretty sure it's called kidnapping. I suppose you're upset that I didn't include assault among the charges. Fair enough. There was also assault. It doesn't say that some armed thugs were involved, but it's likely. So I guess both those charges are aggravated.
Semper Catholic
I live in a small town in NC on the outskirts of the Marine Corps Base here. On the one side road leading towards the main high way the speed limit changes 3 times, despite there being no changes to the surrounding road way (no traffic lights, stop signs, school zones etc.) Most of the cops out here target Marines because they have a steady paycheck and get more admiration then they do. Needless to say I don't meet a lot of cops who aren't crooked.

(And I've been pulled over a LOT :) ) You have to remember that every time they pull someone over, they put their life on the line, and they know it. It's a stressful job. Problem is, because of the power police have, all it takes is one to completely ruin your life. If you, for instance, were pulled over on an empty highway, and refused to unlock your vehicle until another officer was brought to the scene, you would likely face criminal charges, if not immediate violence. If you were stopped by an officer who claimed you matched a description of a suspect, but resisted being handcuffed (made helpless by a complete stranger), you would be charged with a crime. Possibly a felony. If you were pulled over by the police, and they decided they needed to search your vehicle, but you declined, they could detain you until they got an animal on scene. If you decided to drive away rather than be kidnapped, you would be subject to felony charges, and probably immediate violence, including deadly force. I forgot to mention. If you were charged with drug possession, and your vehicle was taken using "civil forfeiture" (theft), even after you were found innocent, your property could (and often is) be kept. See, property is guilty until proven innocent. And that costs a lot of money. It's a good thing when a police officer is a good guy--because the laws are designed to help the bad ones. Since when is it appropriate to give anyone the middle finger, especially a judge. It sounds like it was an espcally trying thing to get any information out of her, and the she gave a sarcastic goodbye to the judge. He wanted a little respect and wasn't getting none. I'm going to say it...she obvously wasn't spanked as a kid....and she needs a good woopin'

You're not going to get anyone to care about contempt of court violations. Only bozos wind up with those charges.

Her jewelry did matter and the fact that she claimed to be very wealthy while having a court-appointed attorney is just aggravating.
