AnneLine
Thursday of the 4th Week of Lent Yes, this is being posted a bit later than I'd intended. Life happens! Well... For the First day of Pope Francis, I had been completely on-track despite having a nasty headcold. I found myself inspired knowing that he had a reputation for doing his own cooking and living simply, and that told me he would totally get what we are doing with this thread! By mid-evening, I had dishes soaking, was finishing up my end of the day routine... when I got a call from work I hadn't expected and that I could NOT avoid. Even though it was within a couple of hours of my scheduled bedtime. And I had no way of anticipating that I would still be on that call several hours later! NOW what to do? Well, I worked my plan. I had finished up my laundry while I was on the call, folding it and putting it into the laundry basket. I realized I simply couldn't do the dishes, because it was just too late and I was too tired by the time I got off the phone. I gave myself permisison to NOT do my task because reality sometimes happens that way. And it felt healthy. I adjusted my morning schedule for next morning to realistically account for the new situation.... blocking in an extra load of dishes in the morning, as well as a slighly later wake-up time. Again, it felt healthy. Said goodnight to God (Mr. AnneLine was already FAST asleep!) and went to sleep in great peace. This morning, I picked up where I left off, working the program, and it didn't overwealm me. I realized: THIS IS WORKING! I am FLYING!!!!!!!! FLYLady's 21st Day Today check out the 'ask FlyLady a question' area of her Launch Pad: You can find it through the main page of her website; check the grey banner at the BOTTOM of the home page: http://www.flylady.net/ OR you can go directly to the current week's questions: http://www.flylady.net/d/br/author/ask-flylady/ Mondays through Fridays, there are new ones each day. Check out the ones for this week! OR you check out her archive of previous questions: http://www.flylady.net/d/ask-flylady/ Be sure to keep on with doing your laundry daily -- I'm leaving this task highlighted to emphasize that this is a new element in your daily routine. It will take a few days to get this one established... but you'll be glad once it is! Morning: Leave your bedroom with a load of laundry in hand and go straight to the washer. Dump in soap, turn it on. Midday: Reboot Laundry (put it into the dryer and turn it on). Midday or Early evening: Fold it and put it away. :) NO MORE MOUNT WASHMORE!!!! Very happy and very peaceful. One day at a time! AND... Thursday night I did something nice for myself and did a challenge at the same time. I ordered in my favorite Chinese dinner... and challenged myself to clear off something for the 45 minutes it took to arrive. Ended up with a WHOLE ROOM cleared out... and dinner was served! WOW!!!!! AnneLine
Monday of the 5th Week of Lent Well.... THIS was an interesting weekend. My computer went dead on Saturday afternoon. It's a danged good thing I took FLYLady's advice and PRINTED MY CONTROL JOURNAL a few days back.... It also made me much more grateful for the wonderful people in my life who are helping me to salvage what can be salvaged from my fried machine, and reminding me to take good care of myself over the weekend. I was contacted by one of the people doing this challenge over the weekend. She is proud to report she has decluttered 25 BOXES of stuff since the start of Lent... and has been working through the steps and setting up routines. She's still decluttering 15 minutes at a time and she is astonished that this is working... She is aiming for the 40 boxes in 40 days out of her home. She's also started a similar project on a pile of old documents in her office. Wow. We both agreed -- the HARDEST thing about the FLYLady challenge is the discipline of doing all the little stuff every day... and stopping when the 15 minutes of decluttering is up. It reminds us to keep balance in our lives... but it is NOT an easy thing.... For myself.... kitchen, kitchen eating area, bedrooms and dining room are decluttered and are more-or-less clean every day. Most of the backed-up ironing is done, and the laundry is being done one load at a time as needed...a light or dark load most days.... one load of sheets/towels a week... and an ironing day or two each week (Mr. AnneLine has uniforms that need to be ironed... grrrrr!). But no more backed up piles of stuff to be washed or ready to wash. It's just astonishing.... The coming week's focus: The Living Room. Major repository of piles of clutter. Gulp. I can do this... for the Love of God, I can do this..... Maybe I'll find Lazarus in there.... who knows?! FLYLady's 23nd Day Today we will add a 'get home from school' or 'get home from work' routine to the mix. It's your Afternoon Routine! Just put the spot in there for now.... we'll add some things to it soon. (ACTUALLY there is something that is already in there.... do you know what it is? HINT: "How dry I am....!" ;) ) Read this interesting musing from FLYLady on the role of routines in our lives: http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2011/11/13/are-you-ready/ Be sure to keep on with doing your laundry daily. It will take a few days to get this one established... but you'll be glad once it is! KEEP GOING ON YOUR DAILY ROUTINES! AnneLine
Tuesday of the 5th Week of Lent Nothing too exciting going on over here in AnneLine Land... except that the house is increasingly taking care of itself. Hope you are having the same experience. On Monday I spent my 15 minutes in the living room, and also took the sheets off the beds and re-made our bed. Guest bed is scheduled to get its bed remaking today (Tuesday). Getting stuff done 15 minutes at a time. FLYLady's 24th Day Today we add 'swish & swipe' to the morning routine. This is the daily maintenance routine for the bathroom. 1) Swish the toilet bowl with a toilet brush. Drop in a little shampoo into the bowl before you do this. Flush! 2) Spray a bit of window cleaner on the rim and toilet seat, and on the counter and sink. Spray some on the mirrors if they have 'flossing home runs' or other stuff on the glass. 3) Quickly wipe off the rim & toilet seat with one papertowel, and toss it away; and then wipe off the mirrors, sink and counter with the other. Do the swish & swipe fast... whatever you miss today you'll get tomorrow. Whole thing should take 2 minutes. Your bathroom will ALWAYS be company ready. Think about it: the way things are going with Pope Francis, you could get a call that he is coming to use your restroom in about 15 minutes. Wouldn't you like to always be ready? ;) KEEP GOING ON YOUR DAILY ROUTINES! MORNING ROUTINE: Make Bed Dress to shoes Swish & Swipe! AnneLine
Wednesday of the 5th Week of Lent Well I had some extra time on Tuesday, so I got a bunch of stuff cleared out of my bedroom drawers... four drawers in about 1 hour. Literally just took the stuff out one drawer at a time, either put it back in the drawer, gave it away or threw it away. Four drawers done in about 1 hour. Two boxes for giving away... a big bag of trash (just stuff I never wore that wasn't good enough to give to someone else... old stretched out stuff... we all have it, get honest....) Now there is ROOM to put stuff away in there. SO EXCITING! Did I mention that I did the same thing with my REFRIGERATOR on Saturday? Cleaned the entire fridge, wiped the shelves and tossed stuff and straightened stuff in less than an hour. I am still in shock when I look in there.... and we've put the grocieries in there since then, so you KNOW how much room I was able to make.... Yowie! More stuff to put away/give away/throw away in the living room tomorrow..... oh my. Still hunting Lazarus... I know there is a lot of big stones to roll back in there... FLYLady's 25th Day Today read FLYLady's personal testimonial on how she started developing her routines one step at a time. http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/why-fly/personal-testimonial/ It took FLYLady several months to do this; no one expects you to have this all done in one month, Working the routines will get you there by baby steps. We are NOT looking for 'perfectionism' but to be doing what you are doing in a way that lovingly honors God, yourself and your family & friends. KEEP GOING ON YOUR DAILY ROUTINES! AnneLine
Thursday of the 5th Week of Lent We're only one week until Holy Thursday! That seems UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! Seems like just yesterday we started on Ash Wednesday! I'm curious to get a sense of whether this has been helpful for people. I know this thread has had nearly 2500 views, so SOMEBODY is watching it! I'm also wondering if there is any interest in a post-Easter continuation thread.... perhaps working through setting up the weekly Fly zones? I'm planning to do the work, so if there is interest I can continue to post... but I may not do it if I don't think people find it helpful. Feel free to let me know if it has been helpful, and what would be helpful for me to discuss if I do decide to continue doing this between Easter and Pentecost. Thanks for any pheedback you care to share..... and I continue to pray for all of you, and hope you do likewise! FLYLady's 26th Day Add this to your inspirational page: "You are not behind! arfink
Well I have some feedback. I fell off the wagon weeks ago, and haven't been able to get back on, or back up to the level you're writing about here. But I'm keeping tabs on this because at some point this is gonna be useful for me, so I'm gonna keep following along here and see what I can implement. AnneLine
OK. That's fair enough. FlyLady would say just pick up where you are and start in with today's stuff... but if you're lost, go back to where you fell off and come on down! I'ts taken me this long to more-or-less get it riding well with more-or-less straight lines... and I fall off enough that my sides and backside are a lovely Lenten purple! But it's starting to happen.... Come on ARFink, you (and everybody else!) can do it!
AnneLine
(Sorry this is being posted a bit late... had some, uh, unexpected things to deal with.... pray for us!) Friday of the 5th Week of Lent Thursday was.... interesting. We live in a somewhat wooded area and sometimes we get.... mice. Euck. Realized we had a visitor that needed to get trapped and removed. That also meant we had to do a clean-up of all the 'thank you notes' he'd left behind. Literally. And I SO didn't want to deal with it.... literally or figuratively.... Found myself thinking that this is a good time of Lent to have this happen... because it makes me realize my own soul has parallels to my FLYLady journey. I've been decluttering spiritually -- letting go of all the baggage that has been tying me down, freeing me to FLY. I've started taking responsibility for living my life more intentionally.... making choices for God and against my own sensuality and lazyness. And now I am having to stare at my own internal vermin... the bad things that are being exposed.... that I don't want to admit are living in my heart and soul. And making the hard choices to evict the ones that need evicting... and nurturing more of the ones that lead me and others to God. And it is good. BUT it is hard! But do-able if I do it one step at a time.... (Side note -- thank you to all those of you who have encouraged me on this journey and continue to do so... it means a lot.) FORTUNATELY because of the work I've been doing this Lent, my kitchen was relatively clean and a major disinfect wasn't that big a deal. THAT is a change! Once again I am aware of how much working the routines have blessed me and my family. It also makes me that much more grateful for all the stuff I have decluttered and cleared over the last few weeks... and another couple of boxes of stuff got decluttered as I went. YES! Has led me to decide that I am going to spend some time over next few days in a determined self-inventory and preparation for confession. Yes, I've gotten into a regular routine of doing confessions... but there is a time and place for a deeper look and a more rigorous cleaning. I feel really called to take the lessons I've been learning from FLYLady and apply them to my spiritual life. I want to look at the good and the bad... and see where God has been at work. And what God wants next. I'm not going to listen to the voices that tell me God doesn't care what happens in my home... that I don't have enough time... that other things are more important. I am going to realize that serving God is really done 15 minutes at a time, doing all the little things with great love.... and that God is using my own journey to help others. PRAY FOR ME AND ALL THOSE USING THIS THREAD AS I PRAY FOR YOU!!! FLYLady's 27th Day Think about what's for dinner BEFORE dinner --- either in the morning or the night before. Add 'what's for dinner' to your routines -- you can add it to before bed tonight, or to the morning routine. I tend to put it both places... because I look at what is in the refrigerator as I put dinner away and clean the kitchen... and then I am ready to go in the morning putting that plan into action!
