I don't remember seeing you around Phatmass before... glad we were able to get you to delurk!

L.

I've been away for a very long time. I let people here get to me got fed up and quit visiting, now I'm just trying to not take stuff personally and let the attitudes around here to roll off. It's been a good resource for me, when I can be patient and think kindly of people. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome back, Honour!  :welcome:

I try to keep a pretty friendly household in here... and I tend to stay off the Debate Thread because it makes me too grumpy.

Around this thread, the most we tend to argue about is whether or not to wear shoes!   And we don't get too crazed about it!

Check-i from me...

Well... got last night's dishes done this morning, and fixed a meal for me and my husband and fixed his 'lunch' for him to take to work (he works the late afternoon to 5AM shift... (we tend to have our main meal late midday and 'bag' meals after that....)

A bit of religious thought....it is Lent, after all!

Went to Mass today and the Gospel was the one about separating the sheep and the goats, and people not being able to believe that they belonged in one group or the other.... because they couldn't quite see that in serving (or not serving) each other, they were serving (or not serving) the Lord.

And I thought of FLYLady....and all of you.   All of us want to serve, but we get stuck cause we can't figure out how to get started.

After all, it's not about the housework, or the routines... the point of this is to be able to serve God and each other better... without getting totally stressed.   Who doesn't want to be able to do what the Gospel asks....

'For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me,
ill and you cared for me,
in prison and you visited me.’

........................................... Matt 25:35-36

But there NEVER seems to be enough time....

But I'm realizing that establishing some simple routines ultimately will lead to the freedom to do these things without even thinking about them....

THAT always helps motivate me..... realizing that while this may seem like silly stuff... in the long run it will free me up for THAT.

Going to do some more of my stuff (there's always stuff...) and get ready to post tomorrow's challenge .....

praying for all of you, and hope you are doing the same for each other!

CONFESSION TIME:

AnneLine is human.  A very fallible human.

Last Friday she put up a list of the stuff you needed to assemble for week one...

However, she put in the list for week two  :paperbag:

And you still need to get the stuff for week one.  :paperbag: :paperbag: :paperbag:

You probably already have all or most of these around the house.... if not, pick them up over the next day or two.

On the positive side... your Friday Shopping Tasks for Week Two are done!

Assembling Stuff for the 1st Week of Lent

Week 1

  • Some small stick-on notes (or small papers and a little bit of tape)
  • A timer
  • Paper towels or rags
  • Bleach or cleanser powder

~~~~~ + ~~~~~
Tuesday of the 1st Week of Lent
FLYLady's 4th Day
Write the 3 tasks below on post-its and post above your bathroom mirror and above your kitchen sink.
This is the beginning of a control journal.
They will help you to remember the habits you are trying to establish.
Get up and dress to lace up shoes; fix hair & face;
Read your FlyLady emails or check her website
Shine your sink before you go to bed
Yeah, I know about the emails.  My solution is to read really quickly and see if there is anything there for me.... and delete what aren't for me.  The ones that are products, usually I just delete, same with the kids challenges and the personal trainer stuff.  I focus on her musings, the daily schedule, and say a quick prayer over the ones that don't talk to me but might to someone else.
But yes, I get what you are saying, and I did warn you! ;)
Tuesday I did better than I have been doing until now!  :)
  • I'm not arguing with myself so much on the morning routine...
  • I read the flylady emails... and deleted the ones that didn't apply to me. ;)
  • I still struggle with not wanting to do the dishes or clean my sink.
    • But I'm going to be firm with myself and get them done before bed!
Hope you are all doing well too!!!!
When I saw what FLYLady wants us to do today, I found myself thinking about St. Francis of Assisi.
Almost everyone knows that St. Francis' father was
NOT happy with the choice Francis made to give away all his money
and go to serve the poor.
His father was LIVID at how Francis was behaving.
He would follow him through Assisi, cursing him and saying
horrible things to him.
He was trying to get Francis to stop living his new life, and to go
back to the way he was before.
Francis was really hurt by his father's abusive words,
and he was tempted to give up his new way of life.
But then Francis had an idea.
Francis asked a poor old man, one of his new friends,
to help him by accompanying him when Francis had to go to town.
The old Man agreed.
From then on, when his father would start to say bad things to him,
Francis asked the old man for his blessing, and the words of his
blessing drowned out the unkind words.
And eventually, his father gave up trying to discourage Francis.
Keep this story in mind as you add today's new step!
Wednesday of the 1st Week of Lent
FLYLady's 5th Day
Continue to do the same three steps, and add a new one:
Today, write down any nagging, negative voices you hear that tell you to stop doing these tasks.
Turn the ugly words around and say something nice to negate the ugly words they say.
Put this paper into your binder.
Dress to shoes
Look look at posted reminders
Read your FlyLady emails or check her website
Recognize negative voices and change them
Shine your sink before you go to bed
Welcome, Cartermia!   I have a feeling there are a few other lurkers out there...
Just do what you can but take the time to do all the steps.... you probably can do more than one a day, but it helps to establish the habits over a few days.
This builds on a strong foundation of the first few days of steps.  One day at a time.
Thank you... mostly it's the FLYlady stuff, but glad it is helpful.  I'm finding it helpful to do this with all of you, too!
I hope everyone is having a good day!
Seems like a lot of people liked yesterday's 'reversing negative voices'
challenge.   If you haven't already done so, be sure to write down
what your evil spirits have been saying... and what you want to say back!!!
I hope you will like today's challenge too!
To do this challenge, you'll need to set a timer for 2 minutes... or have another way to identify when 2 minutes are over.
One quick-and-dirty way of counting off 2 minutes is to sing 3 verses of Silent Night.  Yes, I really did time singing 2 minutes of Silent Night for you.    You can either sing the first verse 3 times, or sing all 3 verses... when when the song is over, your two minutes are up.
The trick for today's challenge is you
SET THE TIMER FOR 2 MINUTES
and
STOP AFTER 2 MINUTES
(Yes, you can come back to it at a different time ...
but you really need to stop when it is time to stop.
That's part of the challenge!)
Wait until you find out what YOU can get done in 2 minutes!
Thursday of the 1st Week of Lent
FLYLady's 6th Day
Do the first 5 steps.
Today your task is to Identify some hotspots and start to put them out.
What is a hotspot?  that and other uh... burning questions... answered here!
http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/fly-faq/#hotspot
(You can read all the rest of the FAQs, but you don't have to do so!)
Choose one hotspot and practice two minutes of putting it out.
Don't work till it is finished; just do what you can do for 2 minutes.
Work on your hot spot for 2 minutes in the morning, and 2 minutes in the evening.
Just in case any of you were trying to adjust FLYLady settings for emails, today's mail included this comment:
=====================
Dear Friends,
This week Constant Contact has had a bug that would not allow you to join FlyLady Lite or even unsubscribe. Carolyn and I have been so sad that we could not help you. Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding!
You can do it now!
FlyLady
=====================
Hope everyone is having a good day.  I'm finding I can get a lot done in 2 minutes if I just will get it done!   Started a load of laundry this morning doing that!
Today was a long day, but I found working on the hot spot for 2 minutes helpful.   A challenge, but helpful.
Using them strategically helped me to get things done... with a minimum of effort.
I'm finding using these little bits of time feels like I am honoring the gift of time well... honoring 'time' like a resource.
I'm also starting to get the 'feel' of the structure that is enfolding, and I'm finding it helpful.
A few of you have PMed me that you are finding the FLYLady challenge for Lent is helpful.  Thank you.
Let's keep praying for each other today and over the weekend!!!!
