homeschoolmom
Actually, now that I think about it, that shouldn't be so bad. Seems like most times it will just be a series of quick pickups to make sure it doesn't get as bad as it was on day 1... and getting "dressed to shoes" everyday wouldn't be a bad idea either :smile3: Although I currently do not usually do so since I work from home. I don't get the dressed to shoes (lace-ups no less) thing. I don't think I even own lace-ups, and I certainly am not wearing them. I think I read somewhere that the reason for shoes is so that you can go freely from inside to outside to do whatever chore you're doing. Should I wear my coat around the house for the same reason?? :smile3:

AnneLine
Snigger. So this is a cumulative thing? Like we will do each thing we've done to this point every day? :o Or is this just the beginning / foundation to start good habits? I wondered when you'd put this together.... rotfl Hey, I hinted I was surprised, unhappy, peeeevvveeeddd sometimes the first time! BUT -- YES, Tricia, you're right -- it really is exactly what you next posted: Actually, now that I think about it, that shouldn't be so bad. Ah the 'dressed to shoes' thing. The first time I did it, I was a little startled, and then, something went click a few days in.... I'd heard that phrase before. Not here.... .but .... THAT'S IT!!!! It is something that is often suggested to people who are dealing with depression... because you can't crawl back into bed easily if you are wearing shoes. You're already dressed, hair combed and made-up, shaved, whatever.... and you aren't as likely to just give up. HAVING SAID THAT... I don't always do this one. :paperbag: But I will admit that I do seem to get more done when I do it. Not always makeup, jewelry and/or shoes (I'd feel like June Cleaver!) but it really does seem to help to be dressed. I know the AVON people AND the unemployment dept. people really stress this if you are working from home... because it gives you a different 'feel' from working in PJs or whatever.... Should I wear my coat around the house for the same reason?? :smile3: Depends on how cold it is, I suspect.... there are days I do walk around my house in gloves and a hooded sweatshirt..... Stop sniggering, Maine and Minnesota.... brrrrr Hum, shoes eh? Time to clean 'em off, mom would kill me if I got road salt on the carpets. :P Absolutely. So would I. You could get some 'inside' shoes.... or move back where there is no salt on the roads... ;p Edited February 14, 2013 by AnneLine
AnneLine
FLYLady has sent me a present... or perhaps it is the Holy Spirit. Just finished fixing a big breakfast for my husband, and still need to fix his bag dinner & prep a shirt. (Do feel a little June Cleaverish at moments like this....) But it was under control.... and the day was going well... ENTER.... I got a call about an hour ago from the President of my Secular Order. The priest who is our Spiritual Assistant will need to stay at my house Friday night, and leave early Saturday Morning. I'd offered that he could do this months ago--he has to travel 40 miles to be at our meeting... and then needs to be with another group 100 miles away by the next morning. It just makes sense for him to stay in our guest room. (Especially as there is not an ARFink in it at the moment....). BUT YOWIE!!! I'm not ready!!!! I'd intended to tell you about this in a few weeks, but strikes me no better moment than this to tell you all about FLYLady's 'crisis cleaning' podcast. It literally talks you through a one hour marathon of cleaning of kitchen, living room and bathroom. And I am GONNA USE it! Here it is! It's funny, and does the job REALLY WELL!!!!! http://www.blogtalkradio.com/flylady-tools/2008/04/04/crisis-cleaning The irony is that the opening lines work really well if you subsitute 'Father D' for 'Mother-in-Law" This is what she says.... "Well, hello everybody. I'm going to set the stage for you. Here's the scenario: Your mother-in-law has just called and she is coming in an hour. What do you do now? And I have an answer for you. It's called Crisis Cleaning 101 and I am going to talk you through it, we're going to set some timers, we are going to take care of ourselves in the process, and we are not going to panic. Now let me reiterate that: we are not going to panic...." And then she just tells you exactly what to do... and it is done. And it really does work. Have used it with an ACTUAL mother-in-law, so preparing for Fr. D should be a piece of cake! I'll keep you advised how it is going.... prayers gratefully accepted! AnneLine
Well... finished a bunch of work .... so now I can concentrate on the house prep & crisis clean tonight and in the morning. Super tired right now. Last night I had the thread prepped, but Phatmass wouldn't let me in for 2 hours (THANKS! :x ) so got to bed a LOT later than I had planned. So, being practical, I'm gonna get in a short nap, and then trot down the HILL to Mass & trot back UP the hill... and get back to work. I have blocked time for what needs to get done this evening and tomorrow morning.... I'm feeling pretty good about what I have planned. NOT panicking. VERY good sign..... Keep on praying, everyone..... How is everyone else doing? Edited February 15, 2013 by AnneLine
AnneLine
A Quick check-in from me, and then the next part of the Challenge. Upstairs is ready for visitor!. Part of downstairs is as well... and will be able to finish by midday or early afternoon (have some appointments scheduled in the morning.) Took longer than I had hoped (always does) but I didn't feel panicked or frustrated. Yes! Didn't get to the dishes or sink, because I opted to do the upstairs instead as my husband will be asleep in there tomorrow morning. It felt the right choice. AnneLine
A couple of people asked... yes, I DID get the house ready in time for my visitor. And I didn't panic... It's also a danged good thing I was dressed before I started cleaning, or I might have been heading to the Secular Order meeting in my sweats! Still do have some dishes to do, but otherwise, I am ready to call it a night. Hope you all have had an equally good week... and will have a better weekend! AnneLine
Got dishes and sink done last night before bed.... and got in some extra prayer time because I had more time & space!!!! :) Got up very early for a saturday, got Father on the road with breakfast in him before 7:30! :) Got to Mass myself.... and adoration.... and then had a walk BACK up my hill... and will be going to lunch with my husband. Seems like an odd kind of lenten penance that brings about so much joy and peace... or maybe... maybe this is what a healthy balance of living is supposed to do? There's more to do -- of course, always -- but today it feels like I've done enough last week. And that feels good.... Anybody else have some pheedback? Feeling over/under stressed? Frustrated? Excited?

AnneLine
Good morning, Phrendly Phyers! Well... I had a wonderful weekend, and I hope you all did too! There is something to this taking Saturday for Phriends & Phamily & Phun,,, and I got in more nap time than I have in weeks, and it feels GOOD!!!! Truth in advertizing... my sink isn't clean. But it is next on my agenda. Just wimped out last night. I'm dressed, but I'm barefoot... but will change that soon. Had intended to post Monday last night, but Phatmass was being difficult (it doesn't seem to like my posting at midnight these days.....) How are the rest of you doing? I know HSMom is decluttering because she donates regularly to the MIKolbe 'old stuff' thread. :) One Phatmasser who has limited email access right now has contacted me to share she is keeping up with us, and is praying for all of us! :) One of Flylady's favorite sayings is that 'you are not behind; just jump in where you are' and I totally agree!! So... here we go!!!!
AnneLine
==================================== Some of you may want to visit FLYlady's website and/or arrange to get her emails. Originally First day of the challenge included doing both of these things... but FLYLady had problems last 2 weeks with her new email provider, and I didn't want to stress anyone out with that extra drama. I think that may have been resolved now.... so this is a good time to sign up for them! HINT: If you decide to get the emails, you may want to either sign up for the 'lite' version... or arrange to put them into a throw-away email account so they won't overwealm your usual one. That has worked really well for me. If you don't want to get the emails, you can also just check her website each day. And here's her 'getting started' and 'baby steps' pages. I am using these as the basis for this Lenten challenge. http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/ http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/babysteps/ ==================================== Monday of the 1st Week of Lent AnneLine's Thoughts FLYLady's 3rd Day Now is the time to start exploring The FlyLady website. Be sure to read the Launch Pad section. This is where you will find the Daily Flight Plan. You won't be doing the whole flight plan right now... you just keep doing what is listed below! Get up and dress to lace up shoes; fix hair & face Read your FlyLady emails or check her website Shine your sink before you go to bed
Honour
This is a cool site. These days I'm doing better, but it is strange that this site comes to me now, not at a time in my life when I could have really used it. Not that I can't use it now, I'm super excited about it. But I wish I would have had it back then! Thanks for sharing. I'm doing the Baby steps now. Day One done!
AnneLine
Thanks for letting me know, Honour! Glad you have joined us! I think FLYLady has a lot of offer almost everyone... and different people get different things from her at every stage of their journey. I also think God sends us what we need when He thinks it is best for us! One of the people in my Secular Order heard about this from one of my novices last Friday, and HE said, I wish I could make use of some of that.... and he's a retired teacher in his 70's. I don't remember seeing you around Phatmass before... glad we were able to get you to delurk! Blessings to you & all... L.
