Cnn - Why Next Pope Must Open Up Church And Usher In Vatican 3

I Corinthians 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

2 Timothy 312 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

John 15:18-21 If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you... If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you... because they do not know Him who sent Me."

The author and finisher of Salvation also promises this, be uplifted by it:

John 16 1-4 “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them."

But even with that, we are promised Heaven. We are poor, we are empty handed, and they spit on our Holy Things; but Jesus is Lord, now and forever. They will hate everything that bears His Name worthily--every institution, every man, every woman, and every child; but we have Heaven, kill me, curse my name, hate my church for not succumbing to "this present age," but still from that He is Risen and He is now what he always was "Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" [Isaiah 9:6] and "the Way, the Truth, and the Life." [John 14:6]

Be proud that they still hate your church. No one hates the Episcopal Church anymore.

When my grandfather was 30 he volunteered to be deployed to Vietnam at the height of the war so he, an Episcopalian Priest and Army Chaplin, could give comfort to the young soldiers who were afraid and dying after getting torn to poo out in the jungle in a really awful war.

And that's why this chauvinism is so obnoxious.  I've been on this website for a long time and I've heard a lot of people talk a lot of poo about how they are bold, uncompromising Christians unafraid of going out into the world and demonstrating their Christian values unlike those feckless and weak Episcopalians who ordain women and don't try to make young gay people feel like abominations.  And yet, despite all the bluster and bullpoo I have yet to a single crusader here do anything a tenth as brave as what my feckless, morally weak, homo tolerating, liberal Episcopalian grandfather did for what he took to be his Christian duty.

I think Evangetholic said earlier that he is Episcopalian. :detective:

I may be wrong about that.

I am in human terms an Episcopalian (as in this is the church I most frequently worship in). My denomination is a disastrous FAIL that as we speak is deserting the Word of God. There are millions of Episcopalians who live godly lives. It still does not change the truth of what I've said.

*Any man who tries to "make young gay people feel like abominations" is a mean-spirited liar and I disown him.

*Any man that tells "young gay people" that God's desire for them is for them to have sex with members of their own gender looks to some authority other than the Bible and I will not sit under his teaching or maintain fellowship with him.

*As for the ordination of women it also violates the plain text of the Bible.

I don't see what difference that makes.  There are plenty of the self-appointed vanguards in the conservative pockets of the Episcopalian Church who have the exact same chauvinism and disdain for Christians who don't pass their metric.

Well if anyone can talk smack about the "feckless and weak" Episcopalians, it would be an Episcopalian.

My metric is what the Bible says. It is a "lamp unto my feet" and without its light and guidance men perish. They die. For all time and eternity they suffer the lack of Him for whom our hearts were made.

Groo the Wanderer

why Vatican 3?  the next council could just as easily be held in Constantinpole or Jerusalem or Oklahoma City

I've seen people mentioning Vatican 3 here and there, is this the baloney they're talking about?? Really, can't they be more creative at least? We're tired of hearing the same old whining....

Why? Are they tired of misinterpreting the Second Vatican Council?

Well that was a load of manure.  Refreshing in the comments to see people calling him out for not representing the Church, even as everyone who disagreed with them was all "CHILD MOLESTING RAPIST RELIGION"

An act of bravery by your grandfather makes sodomy okay? You are off your A game Hasan.

I knew something was up with secular news coverage last night. My boyfriend asked why it was called Ash Wednesday and explained the ashes being placed on our foreheads. He then became worried that I would become victim of a hate crime. I asked him why he would think that and his response was: "Have you not watched CNN lately"? I guess with him increasing his viewing lately due to the CRTC and Christopher Dorner, he had witness numerous anti-Catholic broadcasts claiming church scandal over the Pope's resignation, and numerous other nasty anti-Catholic sentiments. He was actually worried I would be attacked. Also this morning after Ash Wednesday mass, and older gentleman made the comment: "these days its like walking around with a target on our heads". Scary thought to think that people are afraid they will be attacked for going to mass in Canada, a country supposedly invested in multiculturalism, rights and freedoms to religion, and laws against hate crimes and discrimination.

CNN - Why next pope must open up church and usher in Vatican III

by Paul Donovan

Editor's note: Paul Donovan is a lifelong Catholic and a commentator, writer and broadcaster who has contributed to The Guardian, Tablet, Universe, Irish Post and Independent Catholic News.

Translation: Guy with no formal higher education in Catholic theology thinks he is the authority on solving Catholic problems.

(CNN) -- The announcement of the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI came as a bolt from the blue to the world but not a moment too soon for many Catholics.

The Catholic Church has continued to march backwards under Pope Benedict, seeming at times to be in a state of perpetual denial, whether the issue be that of child abuse, birth control, homosexuality or the role of women.

At the heart of the church there lies a deep chauvinism that seems to have infected the whole edifice.

Translation: "I have lots of opinions. Also I have feelings. And because I'm a man pointing out chauvinism in the Catholic Church that makes me awesome, right ladies? Right? See, I'm not like those other guys."

Blech.
