blacksheep
Was thinking of contributing my time to this society. I was wondering what everyone elses experiences have been like. Not really sure what all they do besides help the poor....
Basilisa Marie
Vincent de Paul runs food banks where I live. Most of the churches in my area have a chapter.
Anomaly
My dad volunteered for SVDP for 30+ years. It depends upon the Parish what they do. Here in the local Diocese, they have thrift stores like a Goodwill. Some parishes support Food Banks. Some parishes help find jobs for people. Some give money, food, food vouchers, and clothing to people who come to the parish. Often they do home visits. I'm real familiar w/ the parish I grew up in and what my dad did, but I know other parishes can be much different based on my travels, parishes I used to belong to, and what I've experienced. Some are excuses for old-guy social clubs, and some are almost corporate support for the main SVDP Society, and others are grass-roots individual orientated help. Over all, I think it's a stellar example of Christian Charitable Philosphy in action, but it can be many different things whithin each parish.
