savvy
My spiritual director recommended, The apostolic Passionists, but, I do not know, since I am looking for communities that are more contemplative. I know a sister from the Carmelitie Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus, they are sem-contemplative. She is the vocations director here in Canada. She told me she could arrange for me to spend a week with the community, if I want. Does anybody have any experience with this community?

I don't have experience with the Canadian Province but I've visited the communities in Kirkwood, MO and Milwaukee, WI. I applied to the latter but discerned my heart wasn't there. My friend is a first year novice in the Kirkwood community. What would you like to know?
savvy
Hi Mater, I wanted to know what their pace of life is like. Do they get transfered a lot, etc.
OnlySunshine
Hi Mater, I wanted to know what their pace of life is like. Do they get transfered a lot, etc. From what I know about the community in Milwaukee, they do not get transferred too often. They work with the individual Sister to match her strengths and weaknesses with the individual apostolates. The only reason you would get transferred is if they needed a Sister in another apostolate and you were chosen to go. Their pace is pretty nice. When I lived with the Sisters in their other convent in East Chicago, IN, they had a nice balance between prayer and apostolate. I would have probably stayed if I felt called there but the apostolate was not for me (group home for children). It's similar in Canada and they work as nurses and with the poor. I met one of the novices from Canada who is now temp. professed (Sr. Anna Maria). They sent her to Milwaukee to be in formation with the Milwaukee novices and those from Corpus Christi, TX (Southwest Province). There are 4 different Provinces in North America: Central Province (the most well known) Northern Province (the one I applied to in 2009) Southwest Province Canadian Province The Central Province is often visited by Mother Angelica who oversees the entire order from the Generalate in the Netherlands. She is from Kirkwood, MO and my friend, Sr. Mary Elizabeth, just loves her. The Central Province is also very strict in observance of the Carmelite customs. The Northern and Canadian provinces are very similar from what I've heard. I know next to nothing about the SW Province. Hope this helps! ;) Edited February 17, 2013 by MaterMisericordiae
Antigonos
Might it be worth your while to investigate the Adoratrices du Coeur Royal ? I believe they are contemplative but not cloistered, and IIRC, you did say you have French? They are based in northern Italy; and so far, only have one other foundation, in Switzerland. organwerke
Hi Mater, I wanted to know what their pace of life is like. Do they get transfered a lot, etc. Would you prefer to be transfered or not? I don't know your inclinations, but I think you might give alook also to this community: http://heartsofjesusandmary.com/ They are contemplative, non-cloistered, stable, and do little apostolate. They seem very nice!
savvy
Thanks for the recommendations. I have to narrow down my choices to ones I am very interested in. Mater, thanks for the information. I like working with children, but am not too keen on working with older people. But, since they are Canadian, I am going to consider them. Antigonos, Something about French liturgies really moves me, so thanks for the recommendation. Organwerke, I do not mind being transfered, but since I fare better with stability, as well as need time to withdraw, I have to be realistic. If the Canadian Province is anything like the Northern Province as suggested to me by my friend who is a Sister in the Central Province, then you will be able to help choose which apostolate you will be working in as they match your strengths and weaknesses. Like I said before, you would only be sent to the nursing home if help was needed and you were chosen. Believe me, the Sisters would rather see you in a place where you are happy than so-so if they can prevent it. ;)
savvy
Mater, I just realized that they do not have daily adoration. This seemed to bother me on my first visit to them.

Yes, this is something I realized I was looking for in a community as well. In any case, I would be happy to help research communities for you if you'd like. :)
OnlySunshine
Have you ever considered the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate in Ontario? They have a daily Holy Hour in the evening and work with children. As far as I know, they have no other houses except the Motherhouse. They also have a very contemplative prayer life. savvy
Mater, I did spend a few days with the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate. It's a beautiful community, but not for me. I was sad, when, I was there. I do not know why. This is just how the wrong places feel to me. I am currently visiting my sister in San Diego. I had mentioned the Trinitarians of Mary to my mum, who told my sister. To my suprise she asked me if I wanted to go visit them. They are 40 minutes away from where my sister lives. It's an awkard conversation because my sister is not religious. She also is treating this like some kind of a job or recruitment process. Lol. I also do not know, if I want to be so close to a family member, if you know what I mean.

They are in US, but they: have daily adoration have little apostolate during the afternoon are stable (don't transfer) are semi-contemplative (with a strong accent on contemplation) non cloistered They seem to match all your criterias except for the fact they do not pray in French! savvy
Does anybody know if the Georgetown visitation has daily adoration. They seem to fit all the things I am looking for too. I am not sure if they accept oversees vocations too.
