So was Fr. Corapi.

Of course, same could be said for a priest who abuses people/children as long as he is "bringing people to the Sacraments".

Which is why we should be thankful that there is no sane or credible reason to suspect Fr. Z of such sins. And why we should be quick to defend his right to not be calumniated.

Emphasis mine. Surely he isn't serious?

Is there a problem with him living outside his diocese, with the approval of his bishop, and not seeking faculties elsewhere?

i think she means the part about "not functioning publicly as a priest". (that's what I got out of that)

OH MY GOSH. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY BEING THIS DENSE?

"The rubrics of the older Mass are a powerful leash indeed. When a priest obeys the rubrics of the older form of Mass, he is kept under tight control. He cannot impose too much of himself on the Mass and on the congregation.

On top of that, the mania of turning altars around – in no way asked for or required by the Council – poured gasoline on already fired up priestly pride."

I want to know your thoughts.

:offtopic: This is the original post. The question was not: "Do you like fr.Z?". TJMH only wanted to know if we agree with the quoted part or not (i.e. if fr. Z is right on this one or not, no matter how he said it). So let's talk rubrics here, and not priests :amen:;)

I agree on this. I know priests who follow the rubrics with continuity in mind. Someone said to me after seeing such a Mass: "Woah, this was an OF with the dignity of the EF". The difference indeed isn't that big anymore. Example

Where was he calumniated?

He definitely presents himself as a priest, in public. That's his whole schtick. DO you think he would have half the followers and/or credibility without the collar? A blog is as public as it gets and he makes sure everyone knows he wears that collar. He uses the o{]:¬)  smiley. He has an "Ask Father" question box.

For goodness sake.

He has broadcasted himself saying Mass.

Sad to see so many 'Catholics' so ready to bash a priest.  Shame on you.  Shame!

Agree or disagree, but do not diss one of our Lord's anointed priests.  Agree or disagree, but kneel and kiss his holy hands that confect the Holy Eucharist.

I disagree with a lot of what my pastor does.  I will NOT disrespect him to another person however.

What does it mean, specifically, for an opinion to be "valid"?

What I mean when I use the term is that it's an area where many opinions are "allowed" by the Church on an issue.  I'm allowed to think the Novus Ordo is best, and Nihil is allowed to think Extraordinary Form is best.  Neither of us is more right than the other, and we both have good reasons for our opinions.  That type of thing.

To be clear, we must respect his office as a priest. We don't have to like him as a person. That's basic theology and common sense.

But isn't the Church's view on the Mass that neither of them is "better", that they are different but "equal"?
