Please Pray

Hi dear brothers and sisters.  I need a favor.  Would you please pray for me.  It has been very difficult lately for me to

do any spiritual reading or to pray.  My bipolar and ocd has been acting up and that makes my head so discombobulated.

Not only am I dealing with the normal straying of the mind during prayer.  I am also dealing with a fuzzy mind and thoughts

that go through my brain at the speed of light.  And it only goes around and around 24-7 without stopping.  I can usually

deal with this but lately it is really giving me trouble.  I am on meds and doing well.  But reading at all, let alone

spiritual reading is very tough.  Nothing is sinking in.  I keep offering it to Jesus.  I know he can use this if I do that and

at least try.  So this is what I've been doing.

I hate when nothing sinks in and I feel like I've gained nothing from my reading or prayer.  However I know the truth is

that even in spite of this that God will bless me.  I would just love to be able to think and read and pray.

Thanks.

You have my prayers. :nunpray:

I was just thinking about you the other day, by the way. Have you been able to get to Mass yet?

I'm praying for you Debra, my mom struggles similar to you do with the disorder. Is it maybe time to make an adjustment to your doses? Do you have a regular psychiatrist at this time.

i can't get a psychiatrist anymore.  insurance doesn't cover it and it is too expensive for my budget.  anyway in

order to get help from a psy. here you have to be suicidal.  that means a lot of people are not getting help.  i

don't need adjustments in my meds i don't think.  this thing comes and goes so i hang and go for the ride lol.

i think in part it may be due to something that happened to me the other day.  a very not cool experience.  i

am alright from that now.  my mind is a bit less fuzzy.  i asked God to please help me to pray and meditate.

even when saying the Rosary this is difficult right now but I persist anyway.  God understands and will bless me

I am sure.  And you know the enemy of our souls takes great delight in kicking us when we are down.  or in making

a difficult situation more difficult.  that's alright too.  if he is fighting so hard to get me that means i am getting

somewhere in my walk with Jesus.  i have been able the past few days to meditate a little.  sometimes it is only

five or ten minutes but that small amount of time is better than none at all.  thanks for the prayers, each of you,

in my behalf.  i just felt that this time around i needed some extra help.  God was faithful and provided that for

me.  and my mind is becoming more clear.  grateful for that.  maybe i could take a bit more meds when this

happens.  i will talk to my doctor.

always

may i wander with you.  as long as we are following Jesus it would be great to have

a wanderer companion.  hugz

DL, might I suggest that you're going through a "dry" period? You said in your original post that "reading at all" is problematic, which would suggest something related to your medical issues. But what are you reading that you don't consider "spiritual"? If all your reading is spiritual in a way, and you're having difficulty with prayer, you may be experiencing desolation rather than a medical "flare-up".

Is that a possibility? You would of course know best. But sometimes, we can think there's something "wrong with us" when really we're just experiencing spiritual desolation. I know that you're a recent revert (yes?). If this is your first period of desolation since that reversion (which is so often accompanied by huge, constant graces), it may seem like something's really "wrong", when in fact, you're just entering the usual swing of things with God. Have you read Fr. Gallagher's books? He can help you determine where you're at spiritually.

If it is medical, I'd suggest not pushing things. Pray you must, but spiritual reading... maybe you need more activity. When I'm having a restless period and can't focus on anything, I let myself go nuts outside for a while, cook a lot, clean, etc.—active stuff that lets me burn off the energy that's not allowing me to focus on reading/prayer.

Either way, you'll be in my prayers. :-)

thanks for the insight and the thoughts.  indeed something to think about.  i finally did decide to not push so hard.

i did say my rosary and other vocal prayers and read some Christian fiction.  something to let my mind go a little bit,

where i didn't have to concentrate so much on what i was reading. that did help and i am still doing it but able to do

small periods of meditation.

dear curiousoing,  i have been contemplating what you have written here for the past few days and i think

you are on to something.  almost all my reading is spiritual reading.  the Bible, the Saints, other books written

by priests, etc.  i was having a lot of graces come to me every day for awhile.  my mind is no longer fuzzy but

i am still experiencing the same thing.  i will have to get hold of Father Gallagher's books.  sounds like good

stuff.  thanks for the suggestions.  hugz and i appreciate it.
