Kateri89
At the moment this is the primary community I'm discerning with and I'm hoping to visit them soon but I have some questions about them. I can always ask Sr. Louise Marie (the vocations director) but its nice to hear from fellow discerners too :) I've heard that their horarium is more jam-packed than many other contemplative/active communities and I just wondered what the differences are. I also noticed that of all the Sisters whose names I know, every one of them has some form of Mary in it. I was curious if this was coincidence or a requirement. Plus aside from talking to Sr. Louise Marie, info about that order seems limited online. Thanks in advance for any responses!
DiscerningCatholic
I chatted with them a bit! :) They seem like a lovely community.
maximillion
Hi Sr Kateri. I took a look at the horarium and I can't see any huge differences between it and most other contemplative communities...... I would say this is about average. What do others think? 5:30 AM Rise 6:00 Holy Hour 7:00 Office of Readings and Morning Prayer 8:00 Breakfast and Cleaning Duties 8:30 Novitiate classes Study Apostolate/Convent duties 11:40 Daytime Prayer Holy Mass Rosary 1:00 Lunch 2:00 Spiritual Reading (Novitiate) Divine Mercy Chaplet (Novitiate) Recreation (Novitiate) Apostolate/Convent Duties 5:30 Vespers and Rosary 6:30 Supper Recreation 8:15 Rosary and Night Prayers 9:15 Retire 10:00 Lights out
HisAlone
Full yes, but not nearly as rigorous as communities that say Matins in the middle of the night.

Lilllabettt
Yes, a form of Mary is included in their religious names. Not to say an exception could never be made, but that is their tradition.
PhuturePriest
I discerned with the Franciscan Missionaries/Friars of the Eternal Word (Who I think are related to these Sisters) and all of them have Mary in their name. Father Patrick Mary, Father Mark Mary, Brother Pio Mary, etc. It's a tradition that carries on their devotion to the Blessed Mother. You could most likely technically get a name without Mary in it, but I don't know why you would ask them. It would be imposing on them quite a bit. You would be coming to them and demanding that they do things on your terms, which is not how a community works. And by the way, I know you never said you didn't want Mary in your name. I was just explaining why it wouldn't be good to ask.

I'd ultimately like to take Maria but I'm sure I'll love whatever name is given to me. :proud:

It's technically the same name, just in a different language.
