Sister Servants Of The Eternal Word

At the moment this is the primary community I'm discerning with and I'm hoping to visit them soon but I have some questions about them. I can always ask Sr. Louise Marie (the vocations director) but its nice to hear from fellow discerners too :)

I've heard that their horarium is more jam-packed than many other contemplative/active communities and I just wondered what the differences are. I also noticed that of all the Sisters whose names I know, every one of them has some form of Mary in it. I was curious if this was coincidence or a requirement. Plus aside from talking to Sr. Louise Marie, info about that order seems limited online. Thanks in advance for any responses!

Hi Sr Kateri. I took a look at the horarium and I can't see any huge differences between it and most other contemplative communities......

I would say this is about average. What do others think?

Full yes, but not nearly as rigorous as communities that say Matins in the middle of the night.

That's very true :)

Yes, a form of Mary is included in their religious names. Not to say an exception could never be made, but that is their tradition.

I discerned with the Franciscan Missionaries/Friars of the Eternal Word (Who I think are related to these Sisters) and all of them have Mary in their name. Father Patrick Mary, Father Mark Mary, Brother Pio Mary, etc. It's a tradition that carries on their devotion to the Blessed Mother. You could most likely technically get a name without Mary in it, but I don't know why you would ask them. It would be imposing on them quite a bit. You would be coming to them and demanding that they do things on your terms, which is not how a community works.

And by the way, I know you never said you didn't want Mary in your name. I was just explaining why it wouldn't be good to ask.

Thanks for the info!  I have no problem taking Mary as part of my name, just curious.  I'd ultimately like to take Maria but I'm sure I'll love whatever name is given to me.   :proud:

I doubt asking for Maria would be a problem. It's technically the same name, just in a different language.
