Gabriela
I'm just curious: Is it kosher to put a 10-minute funding request for the parish pre-school in between the homily and the prayer of the faithful? There was an extra basket passed around for that during the talk. It just seemed like an odd place to put it. If it's relevant: There had been a baptism right after the homily. So it went: homily, baptism, funding request and extra collection, sign of the peace (also weird placement), prayer of the faithful, regular collection, consecration. Theoketos
Well Kosher laws are not applicable to Christians, so... Kidding aside, this is not foreseen in the GIRM. Try not to let it bug you. If it gets to be too much check out your local traditional Latin Mass.
qfnol31
I just want to add this in because my diocese is next door to your state. My bishop has been using the last two weekends for just this purpose (and anyone who came to the area for the March for Life experienced this in January), but he pushed for his annual appeal after the homily. It seems to make much more sense for the bishop to ask for money following the homily (or to use the homily to ask for money for his ministries) than for a parish school, but as the bishop does, so do the pastors...It is not really rubrical, but it is not uncommon either for people to use that time of the Mass to ask for money. My guess for the sign of peace might be that someone got confused with where he was supposed to be because of everything else out of order (which happens really often for priests). I'm with Theoketos. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I've made a living worrying about liturgies being precise (literally too, by the way), and it isn't worth it.
