franciscanheart
I don't do a whole lot in downtown Big D, but there's a lot there. The Dallas Aquarium is very cool, but on the pricey side. The Angelika is a cool art theater with it's own bar. I currently live near Dallas, but am more of a fan of Fort Worth, myself. The Stockyards, including Billy Bob's ("World's largest honky-tonk"), and Riscky's all-you-can-eat BBQ ribs are a must for North Texas visitors. It's the Dallas World Aquarium. At least, I HOPE that's the aquarium you're trying to recommend. It is a good time and worth the price, especially if you don't have screamy, squirmy children in tow. And while Fort Worth is a cute little place to go and the downtown is easy to navigate (it's tiny tiny TINY), you'll seriously have so much within walking distance, it'd be a real shame if you didn't take advantage. (If you do find yourself in downtown FW on the weekend though, check out a Four Day Weekend show. Those guys are the best!) Dallas is stupid. Make the 30 minute drive to Arlington and I'll take you to Ft Worth to get away from all the hippies and fake boobs. WATCH IT, MISTER. :annoyed: She geeks out on this stuff. :| ;) :P  One last thing: food trucks have hit the scene hard recently so there'll definitely be plenty of (really awesome) options right there around the district. (They're usually parked next to Klyde Warren on the weekends.) OH! And if you walk a few blocks, you can catch a ride on the [M-Line] trolley! It'll take you a short while to tour downtown and uptown and you'll get in some neat history if you converse with the driver. (The last time I hopped aboard (to catch a ride closer to my destination), he gave us a quick history while they turned the car around. It was fun to watch all the kids get excited about the turning while the adults ooed and aahed at the history of the car we were on.)
missionseeker
I love food trucks. Never been to the ones in Dallas, but the ones in Miami were superb. And there were always musician having a jam session.
franciscanheart
Oh yeah: Forgot to recommend Nammi. The food trucks are out during the week too so if you get a chance to eat at the Nammi truck, DO NOT MISS IT. "Bubbles" (the TrailerCakes (cupcakes) trailer/truck) will be towing some yummy stuff too, if you're so inclined. Sliders are good. Look for the grilled cheese truck. Those people are AMAZING at making a grilled cheese. Dallas is a lot about eating. If you don't get in some good eats, you haven't really visited Dallas. Socrates
There's also a Six Flags in Dallas. I've been there. No, it's in Arlington (now the armpit of the Metroplex), which is right next to Dallas (and is now home to that giant spaceship-thing temple to Jerry Jones' ego, directly next to Six Flags). Six Flags over Texas is the original Six Flags.

So it's kind of like how people make a distinction between going into Saint Paul, Minnesota and Minneapolis, even though they are technically the same town? Socrates
So it's kind of like how people make a distinction between going into Saint Paul, Minnesota and Minneapolis, even though they are technically the same town? Yes, though technically they are different cities (each has their own government, police force etc.) They are just adjacent to each other. In any large metropolitan area, the surrounding towns kind of merge with the main cities as they expand.

In any large metropolitan area, the surrounding towns kind of merge with the main cities as they expand. I've noticed this with Wichita and Goddard. There is technically still a gap between them that goes a few miles, but Wichita is inching ever closer to it, and eventually they will merge, as you say. MIKolbe
Hello all, I'm headed to a conference in Dallas in mid-March. Does anyone know if there is there anything decent to do near the Sheraton in downtown? Any museums, theater, good looking churches, etc? Thanks, BG The only thing cool to do when you are in Dallas is to find the nearest airport and leave that wretched state.
