BG45
Hello all, I'm headed to a conference in Dallas in mid-March. Does anyone know if there is there anything decent to do near the Sheraton in downtown? Any museums, theater, good looking churches, etc? Thanks, BG

franciscanheart
You're joking, yes? You're going to be right next to the nation's largest arts district. Get tickets ahead of time to the Perot museum and do not skip out on Nasher. It was way more fun with the balloon installation, but it's definitely still worth your time.DMA is cool if you've never been. You'll want to check ahead of time on exhibits; not sure if there will be anything awesome when you're here. The DMA is free now, so it's a cheap getaway. Also in the middle of downtown is our Cathedral. It's not nearly as beautiful as it once was, but the Masses are still nice -- at least that's what I hear. (I don't go to Mass there very often anymore.)Someone mentioned the Sixth Floor Museum. That's great too if you're into presidential assassinations. I have actually heard people complain about it, but only because they had basically zero interest in the President's death. (It's my favorite museum in the city, hands down.)You seriously need to get online and check out what's going on in the Arts District. Here's the link: http://www.thedallasartsdistrict.org/eta: Oh, and if you get bored, check out KW Park -- the park over the "highway". It recently opened and people here love it. Socrates
Hello all, I'm headed to a conference in Dallas in mid-March. Does anyone know if there is there anything decent to do near the Sheraton in downtown? Any museums, theater, good looking churches, etc? Thanks, BG I'll let the Reverend Horton Heat explain it to you: (Seeing these guys next week - I'm psyched.) I don't do a whole lot in downtown Big D, but there's a lot there. The Dallas Aquarium is very cool, but on the pricey side. The Angelika is a cool art theater with it's own bar. I currently live near Dallas, but am more of a fan of Fort Worth, myself. The Stockyards, including Billy Bob's ("World's largest honky-tonk"), and Riscky's all-you-can-eat BBQ ribs are a must for North Texas visitors. dUSt
Dallas is stupid. Make the 30 minute drive to Arlington and I'll take you to Ft Worth to get away from all the hippies and fake boobs.
